41st Annual Redwood Run Starts September 1st

This is a press release from the Redwood Run:

UPDATE: Redwood Run Persevering and Wrinkles Smoothing Out

  • Laytonville Rock

  • The third nail in the coffin for the South Fork Eel River and wildlife habitat…

  • Have you thought thru what happens when Festival season starts, all up stream from Garberville, e.g. Northern Nights Music Festival, Reggae on the River and Redwood Run? Since, the Garberville Sanitary District currently has an inadequate or ineffective chlorine contact chamber?

These festivals are notorious for creating a large spike in e-coli and coliform bacteria in the South Fork Eel, as far down as Miranda during and after the events; because they discharge untreated wastewater (showers, vendor food prep and dish washing) into on-site leach fields, which, by the way, are hydrologically connected to the South Fork Eel River.

The majority of this untreated wastewater is generated by approx 4,000 to 5,000 people per day taking showers per event and during all 3 events. Which maybe septic, since it is not tested . Let alone thousands and thousands of people that swim in the river each day during festivals; using suntan lotion, sunscreen, bodily fluids and personal hygiene products being washed off in the South Fork Eel during low flows.

What measures will the rate payers of Garberville demand to protect the health and safety of its drinking water it provides to the public, given these circumstances and no viable chlorine contact chamber in place during these festivals and events?

  • E-coli??? I understand that they can now derive THC as well as CBD’s from E-Coli bacteria, hear say and still debatable,BUT!!!!! Now they can smoke the scum they leave behind.

  • A month and a half away and no music line up? WTF!

  • What’s up with this? This is an un-permitted event at Cooks Valley Campground. Why are they changing the event/venue permitted location from Piercy to Cooks Valley?
