[UPDATE 4:45 p.m.] Convoy in the Fruitland Ridge Area Today
A convoy with Humboldt County Sheriff’s vehicles as well as Fish and Wildlife vehicles and a chipper is in the Fruitland Ridge area of Southern Humboldt today, according to witnesses.
A single report noted there were about 30 gathered at the Dyerville Overlook before 7 a.m. Often when there are that many, the convoy splits into two parties. But we only received a report on one convoy up Fruitland Ridge and we don’t the numbers of vehicles on that.
UPDATE 2:18 p.m.: According to a witness, the convoy has left Kelsey Lane and is staging while still on Fruitland Ridge. She estimates there are 10+ vehicles gathered at this time.
UPDATE 4:45 p.m.: Video sent about 3 p.m. of a law enforcement convoy on Eel Rock Road by Erik from Where Its At Head Shop.

So if they have Abatements, are the raids because the grower doesn’t abate? It seems like it wld be more economical to send a plane over and drop some nontoxic substance on the crop. Something like the deer repellent/rotten eggs. Or, tell that grower to replace the gardens with some other crop, like French Tomatoes, or basil- start a new pesto business. Or plant lemon trees…Just sayin….
I wonder how many hardcore drug dealers they could get off the streets with all the manpower and money they spend pulling up pot plants? You’re right about the tanked market. The abatement process definitely drove some out of the game and caused others to downsize. For that reason, it is at least partly responsible for the current relatively high prices. If the sheriff didn’t provide an element of risk the market would likely be flooded and prices low.

Defunding police is radical. You aren’t going to end up with no police force. This is America, the powers that be won’t allow people to run buckwild for too long. We will end up with cities defunding their police and then having to call to other jurisdictions who haven’t defunded their police, or sheriffs, to handle whatever issue it is. This will only increase response time, making whatever area has defunded their police about as effective at stopping crime as the sheriffs are in rural Humboldt. Or….
We will end up with a “nationalized” police force like Mexico or El Salvador, which is the military. That would effectively nullify the argument of the police not being “judge, jury, and executioner,” which is a very valid argument that I agree with when applied to the actual police force. Problem with that is, once the police force is “nationalized” or taken over by the military, they do in fact become judge, jury, and executioner because they are. The military has been that for hundreds of years. I see major problems with that no matter which way the cake is cut.
