Sheriff Honsal Says Humboldt is Doing Well with Social Distancing And We May Peak within 30 Days

In this “media availability” posted to YouTube, Sheriff Honsal answers the newest round of media questions.

Honsal strongly emphasizes the Shelter in Place order because, he says, if we master this, Humboldt County could be at the top of its curve within 30 days.  He indicates that we could then slacken our social distancing measures.  He does not mention, and no-one can be present to ask follow-up questions, how the ongoing cases in other regions might or might not travel into our area in the future or how that can be monitored.

Jail inmates are being protected by keeping new inmates isolated from the general population for the first 14 days they are incarcerated.  He does not indicate what steps are being taken to keep the jail staff from bringing in the virus.

Honsal says calls for domestic violence have not increased as of now.  He is concerned that as the confinement continues, that might change.  He gives out the Humboldt Domestic Violence Services support hotline number 707-443-6042.  There is also a Toll-free number: 866-668-6543
Honsal also advises people who find themselves at the end of their rope to go for a walk to cool down.

Responding to questions about the role of the National Guard, Honsal explains that the National Guard is under the authority of the Governor.  He says he has no need for their support at this time and says the Guard is currently assisting in civil assignments, in areas of California with more impacts from COVID-19, such as food distribution and setting up field hospitals.

Sheriff Honsal says DHHS has over 100 motel beds for quarantining homeless people over the age of 65 and they may also be used for those with homes who have COVID but cannot afford to stay in a hotel to protect their families.

Move to a state where you can still gather with fellow congregants every Sunday and pray. Have faith that Jesus will protect you.

It’s a good time to claim disability, squat, not pay taxes, pick up a drug habit, steal sh!t, get on welfare, let criminals go, give up freedoms, depend on the government and release all control to the unknown. Bernie! 2020

There is not sufficient data to predict when Humboldt will see our peak of deaths. We MAY peak in 30 days, or 60 or 90. No one knows. Not the worlds best epidemiologist, and certainly not our asshole sheriff.

No one knows! That’s the irony of all this. Governments have no fuking idea what there doing. EVERYTHING being done is 2 months to late or more in a reality check, 10 years to late. The governments plan is no better than your or mine. Look at the world plan on this, shelter in place. Really? Covid and Coronavirus have been in existence for a decade. Priorities have been impeachment’s, world domination and the stupid practice of continually burning fossil fuels for a profit. We as a species deserve every bit of this. Mother Nature will win in the end, maybe not next month but all we as a greedy ignorant species have to do is give it enough time.

I generally agree with you, especially on this virus being a result of capitalist controlled globalism. Whereby our economic system is a fiction propelled by myopic thinking and artificially cheap fossil fuels.

Just to be clear though, COVID (diseases caused by coronavirus ) and corona viruses have been around for thousands of years.

“The most recent common ancestor (MRCA) of all coronaviruses has been estimated to have existed as recently as 8000 BCE, though some models place the MRCA as far back as 55 million years or more, implying long term coevolution with bats.” Wiki

HOWEVER Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID-19 is a novel zoonotic virus.

Why is our sheriff talking like a wannabe expert on the subject?

He’s an expert on only one thing and that’s seeking ways to be in the limelight. He goes out of his way to get publicity.

Unfortunately he’s worthless at his real job.

Our sheriff is literally a certified idiot. This guy also said the airports shouldn’t be shut down because it’s “not necessary”. I work on the frontlines in healthcare and I guess he’s just fine with the risks not to just me but to my elderly, ill patients as well.
Oh and he “advises people who are at the end of their rope” to talk a walk? Gee. I really hope spousal abusers can just walk and not hurt their victims. Grrrr!!

To be fair tho our county runs the airport, the FAA has final say on flights, plus a lot of people are coming into our county by car. Our local officials cant halt flights.
You could organize folks to take over the tarmac/landing strip civil disobedience style so the planes cant land. Or call the FAA and complain to them. Complaining to people who cant change the issue is futile.

And people are coming by boat it turns out, look at the article on loco about the 9million dollar yacht in the bay right now. That author thought its “baller” so loco is promoting out of towners coming in and praising them???
I hope the sheriff’s went to that boat.

We need locals to not rent to out of towners even if theyre family to someone local. People need to stay in their own bioregion. We may have to do what rhode islands doing and post police to check ID’s.
In case folks don’t know a whole lotta asshole rich people drove up from the bay to be up here thinking they won’t get sick. Sorry but if you’re someone who did that you suck and you will be personally escorted out of our county by us locals if we find you. Our police really could go door to door in hotels and kick out anyone from out of town. A friendly escort to the county line.

Our health care system is not good here and you bay area jerks will easily carry the virus up here and overwhelm our already taxed system.
In those cases i would ask the hospital to only treat Humboldt residents and no one from the bay should they get sick here. I know san fran is just a bunch of jackasses who could care less who they hurt. Remember during the Camp fire folks in SF bought up allthe n95 masks and there werent enough for folks in Paradise? They think they deserve to live more than you or i so i feelno guilt in saying please dont treat out of towners, use our local resources for local people. Bay area folks should go to their town to get treated.

Or locals to hire groups of trimmers fresh off the plane from Spain, Italy, Argentina etc and then confine them in close quarters? What could possibly go wrong?

If we can rent motel space for the homeless (which I support) then we can rent hotel space to force quarantine all non-essential people flying into the county.

We should also officially discourage all non-essential travel into the county, and let it be known that you may be potentially refused entry if traveling for non-essential purposes.

Wow. I knew county employees were especially dense but this beats all. Closing the airport not necessary? I guess HSU running plague buses up and down the state was just peachy too. Bonehead Sheriff needs to go back to auctioning off dead peoples goods for cheap.

So, there’s really no way to know when the virus will peak! And until there is effective treatments and/or a vaccine.. seriously, this could go on for a while. Let’s be real. Schools are already closed until summer. I am thankful the social distancing and all the shut downs are helping to slow the curves.

But all this talk about shutting down the county entirely and ID every one in and out of the county is crazy town talk. Ya’ll have must been watching too many apocalyptic pandemic movies. I know I have been watching a few.. like this one..

How it ends.. With Theo James, Forest Whitaker, Grace Dove,
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&ved=2ahUKEwj2yc2ZsMvoAhUXs54KHeW9CCcQwqsBMAJ6BAgHEAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DWJyyJ7lexnM&usg=AOvVaw3HCnvLwAfTmBOEirLe3Dco

Anyways, it’s kinda a ridiculous movie.. but.. it kinda made me think of Humboldt.
Just how every town had extreme lock down thugs at all entrances and such.

Let’s face it people.. Eureka is a thorough fair! People gotta move from point A to point B to a certain level. Especially to be with family! I get it to a certain level. I don’t want to see a bunch of people swarm the community that is short on resources either, but some amount of limited travel is necessary..

Family visits are not essential travel and are in violation of the shelter in place order. Lodging out-of-towners is also in violation of the shelter in place order. The most recent update to the order strengthened the provisions against non-essential travel from out of the area and lodging in Humboldt.

What! No, that can’t be correct. What if your family needs help? Caring for family members Is probably considered essential.. I mean at some point you might be endangering each other.. I get that.. But, if my family needs me, I am going. Sue me.. not suggesting it’s time for family reunions or anything.. The lodging.. I kinda understand. Someone has to clean the rooms and it may not be safe for them to do so…

If the county required a 14 day isolation period for incoming travelers that would be a terrific start . LA county can somehow tell residents where covid19 infected people reside, by city .Why does Humboldt county not release town or city of the infected .kinda important and definitely not illegal.
