Two More Cases of COVID-19 in Humboldt Bringing the Total to 14

Press release from the County of Humboldt:
Two additional cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today, bringing the total to 14 local cases since the outbreak began. Cases 11 through 14 are currently under investigation, with additional information expected next week.
Case number five, confirmed on March 24, has been found to be a contact of another case and is therefore not an example of community spread.
Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich said ongoing investigations are extensive and time consuming, involving numerous individuals. “These results have implications,” she said, “and we want to get them right.”
A shelter-in-place order remains in effect in the county through April 9. For current information about COVID-19, visit cdc.gov or cdph.ca.gov. Local information is available at humboldtgov.org or during business hours by emailing [email protected] or calling 707-441-5000.

Don’t go to town, Tonto.
Why can’t we get the 15 minute test ? Is all this part of the America first program
Can you imagine all the money the insurance companies would make if they didn’t have pre- existing condition’s
Good thing we have people like this around our community. Keeping everyone safe.
Most of those Trinidad rentals belong to doctors from Redding. Maybe they are clueless rather than lacking a moral compass? Either way reflects badly on them.
If reading this correctly: it reads like maybe next week we will be told if these new cases are community transmission . sorry but this is unacceptable .. this lady in charge should be fired ASAP .Be safe folks ? ?.

“South Korea has used data from surveillance cameras, cellphones and credit card transactions to map the social connections of suspected cases. Hong Kong issues detailed information each evening about every newly confirmed case. While Hong Kong doesn’t give out the names of those infected, health officials release each person’s age, gender, street address, medical symptoms — and often the exact location of where the person works. This allows other residents to determine if they might have been in contact with the infected individual.”

Thanks for the chuckle.
Instead of the Olympics we have the 100k infection (USA takes gold!) and 10k death (Italy takes gold!) events. But the good ol’ USA is about to school the rest of the world with their pace for the bigger events to come. U-S-A! U-S-A!
“We are asking that you self quarantine …. ” Are they flying in via magic carpet or teleporting? If not, they are potentially infecting health specialists, cab drivers, and airport employees as they travel here?
So where are the groceries, essential other supplies and medical aid coming from?
Did anyone see the cell phone maps today of Floridian spring breakers when they travelled home, and New Yorkers who are fleeing the City? It’s an amazing visual of travel as a transmission vector.
Local businesses are shuttered with staff laid off again, and someone with a spare large home is offering it to those who are wealthy enough to flee? People are fearing medical bill bankruptcy, but no worries, the wealthy are cashing in.
Why does Humboldt even have a public health department if highly paid staff can’t be bothered to prevent even the most blatant violations of shelter in place?
There are cleaners, gardeners, maintenance staff, all trying to stay afloat as their lives and those of their families are placed at risk from working at these homes.
I hope no one in the medical field is part of this, especially since they would know directly of the poor healthcare locally, and the strain this is placing on health care workers.
Sue, I still don’t know who you are or how I know you, but you sent a nice card when my family experienced our severe personal tragedy three years ago. I lost the card, so never was able to send a thank you, so wanted to say thanks. Thank you for the kind words.
Curious who you are now. I would never expect anything in times of tragedy, so no worries at all if it was me, and thank you.
Jacoby Creek area, I assumed you worked in education as we had lost a child. That’s about all I want to say on a public board, thanks again.
I am. Take care.
Perusing the LA County Health Department web site last night, there was a definite correlation between severity of outbreak and community affluence. The two things that contribute most to COVID-19 spread are apparently air travel and upper middle class arrogance.

Public Health aren’t law enforcement
Addressing the problems with Humboldt Public Health. In an attempt to have them protect our community once I realized a serious pandemic was headed our way, Here is a copy of an email I sent to Humboldt Public Health on March 6, in response to a telephone conversation I had on February 27. I initially telephoned them on February 26, with no response. They telephoned me back a few hours after I left a second message stating If I did not hear from them I would contact the media regarding the failure to authorize testing. During this conversation i was advised the CDC guidelines prevented the authorization, I asked that a copy be sent to me, as an attorney, I was sure there was a loophole to allow the test for Humboldt residents, that physicians believed needed to be tested. There was a delay in them sending me these guidelines. i found them myself, (it was not rocket science, as they were located on their public website), and as I anticipated there was indeed a loophole that could have been used. i then replied to their email on March 6, 2020 with the following:
‘Yes I found the guidelines myself and also noted (as I assumed I would find) the way to circumvent
via a physicians request, However, it is now common knowledge among the educated that the public
health is attempting to limit the formally documented cases. This will lead to mass infections. Perhaps
Humboldt County would take the lead from WHO (World Health Organization) rather than Trump
led economically led but shortsighted of full health repercussions.Check out the Daily (New York Times
podcast) yesterday ( the date of Podcast was March 5) Seattle most likely has over 1500 cases yet is
refusing to provide adequate testing. I personally know 4 (In Humboldt county) who have not been
tested. One having returned from Japan in late January, and yes was notified that a fellow passenger
on her flight tested positive. She developed symptoms a few days later was very ill with breathing issues
and remains ill, was refused a test and told to remain at home .( She is 31 years old). As of this time she
remains at home and is still sick. I can only assume Humboldt County has 300 cases and is spreading. Due
to the failure to properly identify cases, precautions are not being met. For example, Eureka Police
Department does not have any sanitizing lotion in their waiting room ( remember this email was sent
March 6, hopefully this has been rectified by now). Humboldt should follow the recommendations of the
WHO, rather than a governmental agency that has a President that denies even global warming and
protect those of us who live behind the redwood curtain”
Of course I have had no response. At the very least, the public is entitled to have information regarding general location of the residence as well as where they have been in contact with others in public. Then those individuals can self isolate. Our community could be safe and follow the lead of Vo Italy. March 6 they tested the entire community , even ones with no symptoms and found 3% of population tested positive. After a strict lock-down of the entire community and quarantine of infected patients, only 0.25 % tested positive and NO NEW CASES SINCE March 13 in the town of Vo. A combination of testing and require a 14 day quarantine of any non residents entering the county. The County should take all those illegal/ unconstitutional marijuana daily $10,000 FINES and use that to protect the citizens.
Wow. Just wow.
