Major Winter Storm Expected Tuesday Afternoon, Says National Weather Service

The weather prediction for this week, already bad, just got worse. The National Weather Service is predicting a “major winter storm” coming in Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Friday and possibly longer. Residents of northern California and southwestern Oregon should expect heavy winds, snow in mountain passes, possibly hail, chilly weather, coastal flooding, widespread rain and rock slides.

“This storm has the potential to reach historically low pressures as it reaches the coast, and do so within a short period of time,” states a Facebook post from the National Weather Service in Eureka. ” Please continue to monitor the forecast, and be sure to include these potential impacts in your holiday travel planning.”

I think the marine forecast is more accurate for winter winds in downtown Redway than the Garberville forecast. I think the wind tends to amplify in river valleys. Or at least in Redway. They’re more likely to report expected gusts on the marine forecast as well.

Gusts possible up to 60 knots per hour, which translates to 69MPH;

its forecasted to be westerly. its an odd direction for peak winds in these counter-clockwise rotating storms, normally its south.

We just cleaned our gutters and got our yard winter ready! Procrastination is definitely my strong suit when it comes to that kind of stuff. Better late then never. Stay warm Humboldt ☺️

Why are we calling this “bad weather”? We have been complaining it’s a drought for months and when rain is finally on the horizon, we complain and spread doom & gloom. Go figure?

“Just got worst?” It may be worse than before, but it ain’t “worst.” Even if the temp dropped to -25 degrees, it still wouldn’t qualify as worst, but it sure would be close.

Storm is already here. It has been snowing at my home down river from Orleans at about 500 foot elevation for past hour plus. Going to be a long cold Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
