Multiple people called in reports of a fire in Weott that began about 4:03 p.m. Firefighters arrived on scene and appear to have quickly gotten on top of the situation.

“We dispatched an air tanker, and four engines, two hand crews, Myers Flat Fire, and Redcrest Fire,” said Cal Fire Battalion Chief Paul Savona.

Scanner indicates that most of the firefighters have been released. Savona is gathering more information and we will update when we get more information.

Please pay attention to what I said.

>”We dispatched an air tanker, and four engines, two hand crews, Myers Flat Fire, and Redcrest Fire,”

Anybody who knows fire realizes that was an… er… wildly over-response.

Dear Bozo,
Humboldt is still in the midst of fire season. It may seem like it is cold and damp outside to you. But in fire terms, Humboldt is actually at its most dangerous.
A full fire response is protocol in fire season. Until someone knowledgeable gets at scene, everyone that may be needed is coming toward the fire area. Then when the scene size-up determines the actual equipment and personnel needs, resources may be released and returned. Or the initial response may be augmented and beefed up.
‘Tis better to have the response and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
It is not “wildly over-responsive”.
It is wildly responsible!
PS: A garden hose would not have had much, if any, effect on that fire.

??It’s that bad dry undergrowth that needs to be cleaned out so fires like this don’t have a chance to turn into major problem.??
