Governor Signs Cannabis Appellation Bill

Press release from the Office of Senator Mike McGuire:

Consumers have come to trust appellation labeling with wine. The appellation system is an indicator of quality here in the United States, focused on specific geographic regions where the wine grape crop was grown. For years, cannabis farmers have been wanting to secure the same protections and transparency the California wine industry implemented decades ago.

Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senator McGuire’s bill – SB 185 – which establishes for the first time in history, appellation protections for cannabis.

Now law, SB 185 expands the prohibitions already in statute on improperly using county names for cannabis products to include appellation protection based on specific geographic regions and/or using any similar sounding name of appellations on the product label.

“This law will prevent cannabis manufacturers from claiming, for example, their product is grown in the emerald triangle, when in fact it was grown in Sacramento. The law takes into account the critical ingredients to a successful appellation designation such as geographic location, soil types, farming techniques and microclimates,” Senator Mike McGuire said. “Customers have come to expect truth in labeling in wine and this critical bill ensures manufacturers market products that meet similar appellation requirements with Cannabis.”

SB 185 was endorsed by Secretary of State Padilla, the California State Association of Counties, Humboldt County Growers Alliance and the California Cannabis Industry Association. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law on October 12.

I would like them to expand this a bit more and include some level of quality of buds. Eyes, nose and taste test and if it don’t meet a certain minimum your license gets suspended in that appellation county and your shit weed gets chipped.

The statute empowers cultivators to draft petitions with region specific standards, practices and cultivars for their own appellations – so these groups of farmers are empowered to set the bar as high as they would like, for their own appellation standards.

The statute empowers . . .

And i have condos on Jupiter for sale. A special sale is going on now just for Gruesome Newsom and his groupies.

Many of the experts have reached their level of incompetence: their advise is nonsensicle or irrelevant.

Some of them have sound theories, but are unable to put them into effect.

In any event, neither sound nor unsound proposals can be carried out efficiently, because the machinery of government is a vast series of interlocking hierarchies, riddled through and through with incompetence. The Peter Principle.

Not only that. Flowcanna will own all these farms in humboldt and have a appellation monopoly! Look your Marlboro weed is grown in humboldt ( commercially) . Now we can charge an extra buck for it! With new laws, comes something fishy usually. They are NEVER in the peoples favor, trust me. All homegrown, small scale organic full sun weed grown by a hippy with love will soon be a thing of the past. All that crap will be grown in Canadaian peat moss anyways, not humboldt earth. Get real

Oh you and your negetive perspective. My dank Humboldt sun grown nugs will sell and have sold accross this earth for decades and will so for decades more. Not one damn thing this law or that law, corporation this or that will do to stop well grown Humboldt herb.

I am from Humboldt, I grow in Humboldt, I reek of Humboldt weed. When I travel and say I am from Humboldt I always hear as a response “got any weed” and always will til I die. The next moments are filled with smoking weed, making new friends and tax free transactions.

Yea, I see the corporations losing money. Lots and lots of money and they are begging for more. They just filled their coffers with another 850 million. They are lying to investors about our market and not informing them they entered into a war. I consider it an honor and I will do my best to make sure they lose every penny of that 850 million they just recieved. This is our plant not theirs, it’s always been our plant and will always be our plant. We Humboldt, Trinity and Mendo growers are often duplicated but never replicated. They try, have tried and been trying and they have failed.

Well your first paragraph describes me lettuce. Been here for 45 years. Been in the game before I could drive. I respect what your doing. Keep it up. I have plenty of good friends who have gone legal, no hate. The way I look at it is we are all playing our cards on a single deck. Some of us have been delt aces, doesn’t mean you’ll win. I can play a pretty sh!tty hand of poker, and still walk out on top! I’m forced to be an outlaw, even though I tried to go legal, it couldn’t work out. All a very long story. I’m not trying to be negative, just pessimistic! Lol

Glad your still growing. Whatever the fuck legal is I do not like it. Sorry this county and state fucked ya over but that does not stop the war brother. Just keep growing it’ll work out legal or not we need good herb grown not the crap that been gettin put out since 96. There is millions of buyers all accross this great country who have been cheated these last few decades of finely grown weed. I see what is happening as an opportunity and it’s tipping in our favor. Bottom line, we grow some dank ass herb in these hills and we need to spread our love and the world will follow.

A majority of the flower I have seen grown south of the Triangle has been crap. Tons of PM, terrible harvest techniques and book taught “Master Gardeners” lol. The best flower comes from Humboldt, Mendo and Trinity. The best product always sells. We have decades of battles under our belt that give us advantages in this war. I am proud to be on our side. Keep on growing….

Define marijuana.
Define schedule I.
Define drug.
Define illegal.

Thank you in advance for your definitions. Save yourself some time and drag out the Constitution, ya know just for shi!s and giggles. And when you find the Article and Section number that delegates authority to anyone on this planet, the control of nature, when to sew and when to reap, what to sew, and where, please post it. If you come across any mention of man-made toxic materials (Glyphosate), and the research and studies that would make any thinking man has the go-ahead to apply the toxic soup on nature, i’d like that Article and section number too, please. Total number of plants must be listed in the federal Constitution too, right? Or, the State Constitution?

I would like them to cough-up their definition of the semantic deceit used to create fraud, and eliminate those words – forbid use of, or be charged w/treason and brought to justice in the common law. Hold the crapola of begging permission to get a license. How easy these fictional words in the Matrix, are misused EVERY day. We continue to read Satanic language, add suggestions to the engineered semantic deceit, sit back, and believe we are communicating.

The problem isn’t the corruption, it’s the acceptance of the corruption.

The other sure-fire path to truth is so damned simple. Ask your so-called Senator and/or Assemblyman to recite his Oath of Office. What doesn’t he grasp about HEMP IS NOT ON YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION? You do not have subject matter jurisdiction – duh. If the public serpents can’t provide evidence for their claim to fame, –they need to take a long walk off of a short pier.

Keep it simple.

Don’t get your hopes up. California is the poster child of what millions want the United States to look like. This is what happens when Democrats take over and the people get a sent of easy living and free stuff paid for by people they are taught to hate through propaganda. The free world so many have taken for granted will be just a disillusioned dream. More taxes. Less freedoms.

Most ridiculous comment of the week, by far. So, so, very far from reality.

If you think freedoms are being taken with this bill, please explain.

Should Santa Barbara growers be free to call their greens “Humboldt greens”?

Or

Should Humboldt growers have the freedom to market product from their region without dubious claims from out-of-towners?

Should we all just live in an anarchists paradise for your idea of freedom?

What ever, TRB Nazi Newsome is THE worst Governor of Cali of all time! What if one DOESNT want to be associated with the “label” of Humboldt, because you feel like it has a bad name and you want to keep your greenhouse? Will they force you to? Will they force “All” of Humboldt to grow in the same fashion that the “Humboldt label” demands? I haven’t read the bill.. and I should and will at some point.. But.. I do not trust Big Corporatized Navin Grewsome’s Adgenda one bit….

If you don’t want to be associated with Humboldt, dont.

The bill doesn’t force anyone to label their product anything.

The only thing it does is keep people from misinforming others, something you obviously know nothing about, still.

Cmon,

/” Freedoms a laugh and people just accept it being taken from them ….”

If we want something we’ve never had, we’re going to have to do something we’ve never done. –i’m thinkin Jefferson.

On paper, we were born into slavery as soon as a foot touched ground. We’ve never had freedom. The youngest generation now, has never known life w/out a cellphone, tablet, www connection. Our freedoms aren’t being taken. We are surrendering them . . .w/out ever sensing what a universal gift of liberties we have been blessed with, and, that have been stomped on and swept under the rug. I get that it’s hard to know something that you have no recollection of. At the end of the day thou, the search always begins at the beginning.

The permitted growers pay big money for their products to be tested and trusted.
Consumers pay big money (in the eyes of the consumers) purchasing the tested and trusted products.
California spends the money raiding the small mom and pops and confiscating their assets, instead of assuring the consumers that the products are trustable.
The products are unaffordable due to the extra fees and taxes the growers and sellers have to pay out in order to assure their customers of a safe product. This forces the consumer into shopping the black market where it’s cheaper than dirt. The Black Market used to be safe, when everyone knew their ‘dealer’.
Not anymore.
Meanwhile, people across the nation are literally dying from tainted, “black market”, thc-oil (and possibly cbd-oil) products.
The California bureaucrats (actually, all the bureaucrats) blame the deaths on a totally UNRELATED product that is sold in LEGITIMATE stores that the businesses shelled out BIG money to run. Those stores are being shut down because they’re not allowed to sell their inventory until the ‘bureaucrats’ say they can.
The chants heard around the globe are ‘omg flavors! we must ban flavors!”.
Seriously people? GROW THE EFF UP.

And now the bureaucrats want … what?
As tainted products reach across the pond, the bureaucrats still blame the UNRELATED products…
UNTIL when?
UNTIL the Appellate d products can be included in the UNRELATED product deaths too?

Who knows.
Just sign me, Cynical Me.

Consumers don’t care where it was grown. Humboldt cannabis is picked up by distributors, because we know how to cultivate and it’s available. That will slowly go away. Indoor can be grown anywhere and you would never know the difference if it was Alaska or Arizona.

“No later than January 1, 2021, the Department of Food and Agriculture shall establish a process by which licensed cultivators may establish appellations of origin, including standards, practices, and cultivars applicable to cannabis produced in a certain geographical area in California”

“California law already allows licensed cannabis growers to get a county-of-origin designation if they grow all of their weed in one county. The law (SB 185) tasks the California Department of Food and Agriculture with setting county-of-origin standards.”

I encourage licensed cultivators to establish the “Fuckall” appellation first and foremost, and undercut everybody by providing the lowest price for the highest quality marijuana. Why are people applauding mandatory, and very costly, government control over their neighbors’ crops? While being cheered for supposedly establishing strict quality control standards, people are overlooking the fact that this new law will alienate Humboldt growers who don’t pay into the state’s governance from even labeling their Humboldt grown weed “Humboldt Grown”. It’s the roots of monopoly, and the new face of monopoly is multiple labels for the same corporation’s products.
