In the new episode: Sears is closing in Eureka, optimism from Humboldt State’s head honcho, overdose death rates went way down in 2018, an Arcata City Councilmember wants to do away with the Pledge of Allegiance at meetings, a horse died at the fair, funding cuts for Planned Parenthood might not impact Humboldt much, housing ideas, some big-market love for driving the Lost Coast, PG&E rates might go up, you can weigh in on how to bring tourists to Eureka, a strain for Willie Nelson, a poem, and so much more. Plus event picks and the attraction of the week.
You can also check out Humboldt Last Week Alternative Radio (HLW altRADIO). It’s a curated radio station with new and nostalgia alternative music — mostly leaning toward rock — and quick community stories. The sets are long, the community content is prompt, and the library is vast. The most hearted artists of last week? Pearl Jam and Phantogram. Adds this week? Vampire Weekend “Stranger,” Silversun Pickups “Don’t Know Yet,” Sofi Tukker “Swing,” CRYSTAL “Speak of the Devil,” and The Orders “Moloko Tea Party.”

??Thank you Myles for the weekly update. ???
Thanks, Willie — my pleasure!
John Lee Hooker did a tune called “Whiskey and Wimmin”
Sears has been a zombie for years. It was a long, sad decline and they threw away their exceptional customer service years ago. When they sent out advertising circulars for sale items not in local stock, that crossed a line into bait-and-switch marketing.
The Pledge of Allegiance is a superstitious and idolatrous act. A moment of silent contemplation is fine. An incantation is not.
ah , i bought john lee hooker a beer once and told him i played guitar , he wanted me for his COAST TO COAST BLUES BAND !!
Listening to John Lee Hooker on Spotify all morning today, reading comments has been fruitful. Thank you.
