[UPDATE Monday: Major Injury] Crash Just North of Arcata on State Route 200

One vehicle went off the road and at least one person was injured and taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The roadway was temporarily closed.

UPDATE 8:34 p.m.: The California Highway Patrol are now calling this a major injury crash.
UPDATE Monday: Arcata Fire tweeted this morning, “Yesterday (8/25/19) around 6 pm, Arcata Fire District responded to a major injury crash on Highway 200 (North Bank Road) in McKinleyville. The two vehicles collided sending one of the vehicles off-road. One individual was sent to the hospital by ambulance.”

That would be two on North Bank Road (State Route 200) in just a few days.
People travel @ 50 MPH on that road.
CHP needs to patrol.
North Bank Road (State Route 200) is an unmarked state hwy the speed limit IS 55. It is unsafe to drive under the speed limit. Drive safe, follow the recommended regulatory speed signs when taking corners and don’t be a distracted driver.
“Safe”? Driver? MANY more die from exceeding the speed limit than going under it. People who complain about others “always going too slow”, are almost ALWAYS the ones who CAUSE accidents. Just sayin.
i would ask you to prove your comment . as it has been proven time and again that speeders tend to be in less accidents as they are nore focused upon driving and not on attempting to slow other people down , talk on their phones, adjust their make up or reading a book.

North Bank Road (State Route 200) is an unmarked rural hwy in California which means the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. Driving under the speed limit it illegal and unsafe.
Driving under the speed limit is not always illegal or unsafe. If there are dangerous conditions (and this applies to I-5 on its straightest section) then the smart thing is to drive safely whether it’s 5mph or 55.

SR 200 has no posted speed limit. Therefore it defaults to 55mph with recommended Speed signs at curves.
I’m not surprised there aren’t more accidents on North Bank Road. I believe the road lacks guard rails throughout. Also, there is a long stretch which is slightly curved with a minimal shoulder on the river side so there is little margin for error. And there is a fairly steep downhill curve near the north end where it looks like this accident occurred.
The accident was actually on the east end off 200.

I just spoke to the woman who runs Humboldt Paws Cause and she checked. The dog is still listed as missing.
And now we have word that he has been found and is on his way to the hospital to see his owner. He is okay!

I ride my bike on that road – people use it as if it’s a race course. At least they do seem to watch out for cyclists
This situation is terrible. At first the patient seemed fine. But then progressively worse. Head trauma can result in brain injury that can have horrific results. Please everybody do not take any blow to the head lightly – Be attentive to any possible results. In this case they did take it seriously and she was taken to Mad River for evaluation. We can’t fix everything. Life is a temporary gift. Hug your loved ones and enjoy the beauty of this world…And please drive safely- like your life- and others!- depends on it.
Yes head trauma can be illusive. My sister was rear-ended slightly in her car and felt fine so thought nothing of it. About a month or so later she started having some vision problems. She went for medical care and they found a small brain bleed which they traced back to her accident.
Just checked with Paws Cause who check with owners, and sadly this wee one is still missing.
The dog was found last night and is safe. I just heard from the people at 12:30 pm. Nobody has informed Paws Cause yet- They have had a very stressful night and day and that info got dropped…understandably. Just saying was correct in their post. The dog is found and safe.
