Man With Major Injuries After Crash on Alderpoint Road Not Found Until Almost a Day Later

chp major injury featureA man who crashed a pickup truck off the Alderpoint Road on the evening of Wednesday, August 7 and received major injuries lay there for almost 20 hours before the accident was seen by a passing motorist, confirmed California Highway Patrol Officer Nathan Bjork this morning.

“We don’t know exactly how long [the man lay there,]” Bjork explained. The CHP investigating officer estimated the accident occurred about 7 p.m.

About 2:30 p.m. on August 8,  he said, “A passing motorist noticed a pickup truck upside down 30 to 40 feet off the road in a ditch,” he said. “[After calling 911,] they stopped and they waited for the emergency services to show them where the car was.”

The CHP and the local volunteer fire department responded to the scene. “They did a rescue to pull [the victim] up from the side of the road because he was down a steep embankment about 40 feet…He was conscious when we arrived. He got pulled up safely.”

The victim, a local man, as taken by medical transport to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka where he is receiving treatment for his injuries.

I bet that was the worst 20 hours of his life. Sure hope he makes a full recovery. Thank you to the witness for staying there until the first responders arrived.

🕯🌳Didn’t someone just say in the last two days about seeing a CHP chasing a pickup down that road? If I’m wrong I’ll take the tounge lashing.

I think someone was just ahead of the Sheriffs, maybe speeding to find somewhere to get out of their way. They weren’t chasing anyone, I saw them go by.

Don’t drink and drive. Not his first crash due to heavy alchohol consumption… time to grow up John s.

If he was a drunk driver, he would be completely sober by the time he was rescued. Hope he learned a lesson in addition to recovering. Doubt it though.

Being drunk while crashing saves lives. I have seen it to many times up here in humboldt.

I wish the CHP would spray paint X’s on the skid marks of investigated/closed accidents on our roads so we know if the skids are fresh or not. I see dozens on 101 and knowing whats fresh or not is impossible. Not saying that applied here, just suggesting.

Well idk the story why he went over ~ but the Road up there is tragic ! You need to crawl up n down the mountain to not go over the side. Cali needs to put guard rails n maybe asphalt the areas that need to be fixed. As much as it costs in tax’s it should be a safe proper road. Just keeping it real.
