A slide has blocked the Elk River trail in the Headwaters Forest Reserve for over a week now.

“We don’t have an estimate on reopening the trail yet, said Jeff Fontana, BLM’s Public Affairs Officer. “The slide is three to four acres in size and we are still developing a plan to address it.”

Hopefully, the better weather expected this week will help.

“In the meantime people can still use the lower part of the trail — the paved section that has interpretive signs about Headwaters history and natural resources,” Fontana said.

Develop a plan? Typically because it’s a government agency they have to make it expensive and difficult. Have the CCC people build the trail over the slide when it drys out!

Went there the other day and stumbled upon this slide. It didn’t look as bad as it says but I also didn’t even so much as think of attempting to get close enough to see all of it. The next rain will be great to let the slides complete their path so it’s easier on everyone that eventually do have to repair it. So sad because this is my favorite hiking trail. But thank you to all the people maintaining the trail in this mess! Y’all rock!
