CHP is handling the investigation.
This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.

Prayers for those involved and big thanks to Rio Dell Fire
What kind of vehicle???
From the pictures it’s clearly a Toyota Highlander.
look at the pictures.
Wait what? The first responders had to perform a partial amputation on a pinned victim?
Holy cow.
Thinking of all involved, the victim and the first responders, scary for all Im sure.
Please lets all slow down and stay present.
Be patient with one another so people dont rush or text while driving.
Not at all saying thats what happened here.
It seems to me majority of people are floating a bit outside their body to survive right now. Lets all try to be as present as possible, rushing&brain spinning do not help us. If they did we’d be enlightened beings all.
Theres a lot of loss for a lot of folks right now too, grief often makes daily life surreal. Give rides to people if you can.
Carpooling is a great cure for lonliness & checking in with one another 💐
As posted, partial due to the accident, not extrication by EMTs.
Be present as possible. Maybe reread the article. Rushing to speculation does not help us at all.
No where does it say responders performed an amputation…
So true that many are suffering loss and grief, sharing rides is a great idea.
Read it again. Look at the picture. The amputation is apparently the result of the accident, not paramedics.
TG no fire. The vegetation is getting drier. Bless our responders.
That was one nasty crash. I pray that the woman who was pinned in by her legs will make a complete recovery. It sounds like her legs were possibly crushed. Thank you to the Rio Dell Fire Department, City Ambulance, Fortuna Police Department and the CHP for your work at the scene.
She is a teacher at Fortuna High.
I am sorry to hear she is a teacher at Fortuna High. I hope the kids will write some Get Well cards for her and send them onto the hospital or her home.
Oh we did as someone from fh it was one of the first things we did she is one of the best people at fh please keep her in your thoughts
I’m a dear friend of the woman in the accident and her foot was NOT PARTIALLY AMPUTATED. Please correct this misinformation
Denise, I’m very sorry your friend was injured, and I understand why seeing details from the crash would be upsetting.
The information published came from information gathered during the incident. However, in the immediate aftermath of serious collisions, early reports about injuries can sometimes be incomplete or inaccurate as this was a chaotic situation.
I’ll do my best to get an official source of info tomorrow.
A gentle and empathetic response.
