Man Stabbed Multiple Times Near Arcata Apartment Complex; Suspect Still at Large

handcuffs and attempted Murder text

A man was stabbed multiple times near a Valley West apartment complex late on April 30 in what Arcata police are investigating as an attempted murder, and the person believed responsible remains at large.

Officers were dispatched around 10:50 p.m. after reports of a disturbance with possible shots fired near where Valley West meets Valley East. What they found when they arrived told a different story than the call suggested.

“Officers go to that area, and they …find a person in the roadway who is bleeding and has actually been stabbed, not shot,” said Lt. Luke Scown of the Arcata Police Department.

The Arcata Police Department Investigations Unit responded to the scene and began piecing together what happened. Detectives determined the victim had been in a physical fight with several people, at least one of whom stabbed him multiple times. The altercation appears to have grown out of a verbal confrontation that took place before the violence broke out, Scown said — not a random attack.

The victim pulled a firearm from his backpack and fired at least one shot in their direction. It is unknown if the victim fired the weapon as the suspects fled or if they fled due to the victim firing the weapon.* “We don’t believe that anyone was hit,” Scown said, based on investigation of the scene.

The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and is listed in stable condition. Those involved in the altercation included a mix of adults and minors. The primary suspect is an adult.

Investigators have identified that suspect but are not releasing the name while they work to locate him.

Despite the suspect being at large, Scown said there is no known direct threat to the public. The incident appears to have been the result of a specific dispute rather than a random act of violence.

Anyone who witnessed the altercation or has information is asked to call the Arcata Police Department at (707) 822-2424 or submit an anonymous tip at (707) 825-2566, directed to the attention of Detective Sergeant Victoria Johnson.

Note: This article has been updated to clarify the exact time of the shot/fleeing suspects has not been confirmed by investigators at this time.

If that is true that the victim fired as the perps fled, he could be charged. That doesn’t meet the criteria of ‘self defense “

Hope whoever fired the shots disposed of the brass responsibly. Those storm drains go directly to the bay. What a quaint little town to send my child to university at.

Yeah, Don’t do it. But if you do, keep them far away from “Valley East or Valley West”.

A  verbal confrontation turned into a physical fight with several people, at least one of whom stabbed him multiple times, the victim pulled a firearm from his backpack and fired at least one shot in their direction.

Could have de-escalated and gone home without injury.

The LE knows who he is.

Much like the clashes between the Montagues and the Capulets in Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET. Boys and gangs have been a recipe for violence throughout history.

Just another day in Valley West… the Progressive City of Arcata’s approved dumping ground.

It’s quite the familiar pattern. Only in Arcata’s case accelerated by the homeless. (No not all homeless are troublemakers and some deserve our sympathy and help)…Shove all the undesirable elements into one area- fast food, homeless, etc and build lots of low income housing there. Fill the low income housing with welfare recipients and of course that’s the only place single mothers can afford. Now you have their children subjected to this environment and presto-shazam! now you are breeding generational gang mentality and criminality of all kinds. And for an additional flourish you should let all hard drug dealers and other criminals out on weak sentences so they can return to the hood and display to the kids that there are not real consequences for bad behavior. Let that program run for a decade or two and you get exactly what you’d expect- a ghetto with ghetto gang activity. But again in Arcata’s case they will explain it’s called “being progressive” to let criminals off easy and that They Really Care So Much…It’s almost like they just have cheery ideas but never root them in realities that can be easily learned from observing what goes on in the many troubled urban areas of our country?

You said it, it s called red lining, put all low income people in affordable low income housing, section 8, separate from the general public.

Valley West has a major grocery, auto supply, two veterinarians, a couple of feed stores, hardware, etc. It was never a place without options. But I think it became what it is now when Arcata wouldn’t allow homeless rv parking around the city but ignored it there. It was not a result of red lining. It was a result of not dealing with problems as long as it did not interfere with the big university business of Arcata.

Don’t forget the city has “relocated” the homeless to their very own river front properties near Tractor Supply area etc…seen some good bum fights in Valley West parking lots while dining at Peppers! At least the shopping center has hired some top notch security guards! (insert laughing face emoji!)

Yes 💯 🙌 And the well off live in gated communities with Private Security or in Rural Settings protected by acreage
In my years of living in rural neighborhoods where people were generally poor ; Never own the nice car on the block! It’s just inviting trouble if the hood thinks u got something nice

A modern day hood that resembles a concentration camp of poverty and hopelessness

IMHO:

Hopefully he had a concealed carry permit !

Concealed Carry (PC 25400): Carrying a concealed handgun without a license is a misdemeanor, but becomes a felony if the gun is stolen, you are in a gang, or you have prior felony/firearm convictions. (McElfish Law)

Consequences
Carrying without a permit often leads to immediate arrest, seizure of the weapon, potential jail time, and significant fines (Berga Law)

I am certain the suspect accused of this stabbing is just having a bad day! All he needs is a kind counselor to talk to and a warm fuzzy teddy bear 🧸

Lets play a game and guess in the comments below how long it will take to arrest the suspect? How long before he is released by another liberal soft on crime judge?

Who is game?

All he needs is love and warm fuzzies ❤️
