A commercial structure fire possibly triggered by an explosion was reported around 12:23 p.m. Monday in the 4300 block of Cahto Peak Road, according to scanner traffic.

Initial reports from the incident commander indicated the building had multiple liquid propane (LP) tanks. The structure was already fully involved when the first units arrived.

The first unit on scene, Medic 5120, reported a working commercial structure fire with the building collapsed to the ground. Firefighters indicated there was minimal threat of the fire spreading beyond the immediate area, though flames extended into nearby vegetation, ultimately burning approximately one-eighth of an acre.

According to early information, the building had been evacuated prior to the explosion, and no injuries have been reported.

Laytonville Fire Department water tender 5195 was among the first resources requested, along with additional engines from Cal Fire, which responded from Howard Forest Headquarters.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

Thank you firefighters for being dumb enough to run towards the danger and smart enough to be able to deal with it safely.
