According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, the crash was first reported at about 11:21 a.m. Initially described as a traffic collision involving a motorcycle, the incident was later classified as a major injury crash.
CHP Sgt. Barrett Barnwell said an elderly man from the Zenia to Alderpoint area was riding a dual-sport motorcycle westbound on Alderpoint Road just west of Arthur Road not far from Redwood Drive when the crash occurred.
“It appears he either lost control or may have suffered a medical emergency,” Barnwell said.
The rider left the south edge of the roadway, traveling off the shoulder near a culvert pipe, and was ejected from the motorcycle.
CHP officers were first on scene and provided medical stabilization until emergency responders arrived. Personnel from the Redway Volunteer Fire Department, local ambulance services, and Cal Fire also responded, Barnwell told us.
The rider was wearing a helmet and additional safety gear at the time of the crash.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transported to Garberville Airport and flown by a REACH air ambulance to an out-of-area hospital, believed to be in Redding.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Dual sport moto. What kind of bike is that?
Used to be called an enduro.
Street legal trail bike.
Ouch! I feel for everyone who travels this road where collisions are a constant worry. It can happen to any of us. I can give sincere thanks that neither I nor my loved ones have never been involved in any accidents on AP road across a great many years. Thanks as well to the first responders who provided services to this rider.
TG for those choppers and onboard medics. Weather’s been erratic lately. Downpour/sunshine.
It’s a short flight and redding is a really good hospital from what I hear. It dosnt take much to crash a bike thats for sure. But enduros are very well suited for the bumpy pot hole filled roads, plenty os suspension. I have trouble with the heavy bikes only having three inches of travel..
Posotive thoughts for the rider. He almost made it to town.
