Legislative Leaders Endorse Mary Burke for 5th District Supervisor

This is a press release from the Mary Burke for 5th District Campaign Team:

Congressman Jared Huffman, Assemblymember Chris Rogers, and Humboldt County Supervisor Mike Wilson have officially announced their endorsements of Mary Burke for Humboldt County’s 5th District Supervisor. These leaders  join a growing coalition of local support for Burke to succeed retiring Supervisor Steve Madrone in the upcoming June 2 primary.

Congressman Huffman, a steadfast advocate for the North Coast’s environment and infrastructure, has seen how Burke moves complex natural resource issues forward. Huffman cites her proven track record of collaborative leadership as a primary reason for his support.

“Mary Burke has shown a strong willingness to establish relationships, embrace solutions to complicated problems, and see things through to completion.” said Congressman Huffman. “I know she will bring these qualities to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors and serve the diverse interests of the community well.”

Supervisor Mike Wilson echoed similar sentiments stating “I am proud to endorse Mary Burke for Supervisor. Mary has the experience, the skills, and the deep understanding of Humboldt County needed to hit the ground running. She understands that protecting our natural resources and growing our economy go hand in hand, and she knows how to bring resources to this county in ways that prioritize both jobs and the environment. I appreciate Mary’s real commitment to removing the barriers that stand between good ideas and real action to get things done! Humboldt County needs Mary Burke.”

Northcoast Assemblymember Chris Rogers, known for his tireless work on wildfire resilience and climate adaptation legislation, praises Mary and her work. “Mary is the kind of environmental steward and practical decision-maker who knows how to build livable communities for future generations. I’m proud to stand with her as she embarks to be the next Supervisor for Humboldt County.”

Burke, a McKinleyville resident and former member of the McKinleyville Community Services District Board (MCSD), currently serves on the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee (MMAC). Throughout her career in community-based natural resource conservation and in her community service, she has focused on securing resources for vital projects, including fisheries habitat restoration, economic studies and infrastructure safety, often working in tandem with state and federal partners.

“I am incredibly honored to have the support of Congressman Huffman, Assemblymember Rogers, and Supervisor Wilson,” said Mary Burke. “These legislative champions have been fighting for federal, state and local investments that keep our communities and our landscapes healthy. As Supervisor, I look forward to continuing that partnership to ensure the people of the 5th District have strong representation at every level of government.”

These endorsements add significant momentum to Burke’s campaign, which has already garnered support from incumbent Supervisor Steve Madrone and broad support across the region. Burke is running on a platform of community health, emergency preparedness, and sustainable economic growth that preserves the unique character of Humboldt County.

Could you please repeat the first sentence of your comment? I heard the rest just fine, since it was all capitalized, but I didn’t quite catch the first part.

Thanks, now i Know not to vote for Mary Burke. Having an endorsement form these three asshats is a deal barker. Steve M was/is questionable at best.( Hows that Amazon park working out. Is it still in the works? Or is it on the same road as the fish farm, and weed, and windmills?) Anyway no thanks Ms. Burke.

“As Supervisor…”…???

Excuse me…???

WTF…???

Sounds to me like she is counting her chickens long before they have actually hatched…

I find that to be overconfident to the point of being distasteful…

I believe it would be much more appropriate to begin her statement with, “If elected…”

No candidate for political office should ever prematurely take a single one of the electorate’s votes for granted, in my humble opinion, let alone the majority of them…

I’m not a member of the Fifth District, but if I was, the endorsement from two out of three of these politicians, Wilson and Huffman, would certainly not be working in Mary Burke’s favor, as far as whether or not I chose to vote for her, and their endorsement definitely wouldn’t sway my vote her way…

Quite the contrary, as a matter of fact…

I wouldn’t ever vote for either one of them, either, as a matter of fact…

Sounds like Mary Burke already thinks she has the election in the bag..

She could quite possibly be in for a very big surprise…

Confidence is one thing, but overconfidence is quite another…

As far as I am concerned, taking the future outcome of an election for granted, is not a good look…

I’m really glad that you mentioned Steve Madrone’s endorsement of Mary and clarified that he is retiring.

I was initially confused and thought she was competing with Steve.

Steve Madrone has done a great job in this seat and I hope receives appropriate honors on his retirement.

Welcome to the armchair quarterback section, Steve!
