Mendocino County Provides Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan for Public Review and Comment

The County of Mendocino is inviting residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to review and provide feedback on the draft Mendocino County Hazard Mitigation Plan, a comprehensive strategy designed to reduce the risks and impacts of natural disasters across the county.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies vulnerabilities to hazards such as wildfires, floods, drought, earthquakes, tsunamis, and severe weather events, and outlines actions to enhance community resilience, protect lives and property, and reduce long-term recovery costs.

This plan covers the entire county, including the unincorporated communities of Fort Bragg, Point Arena, Ukiah, and Willits. It also includes some special districts, including the Covelo Fire Protection District, the Mendocino County Office of Education, the Noyo Harbor District, and the Redwood Coast Fire Protection District.

The public review period will be open April 6 – April 20, 2026.

About the Hazard Mitigation Plan – The Hazard Mitigation Plan is updated periodically in accordance with federal requirements under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). An approved plan allows the county and participating jurisdictions to remain eligible for certain types of federal disaster assistance and mitigation funding. The plan represents a collaborative effort involving county departments, local agencies, tribal partners, and community stakeholders.
