Teen Girl Killed, Driver Seriously Injured in Early Morning Crash Near Weitchpec Yesterday
A girl was killed and a male juvenile driver seriously injured in a crash along Highway 96 near Weitchpec early Wednesday morning, according to the CHP. Both young people are from the Weitchpec area.
The collision occurred around 12:15 a.m. on April 1, approximately half a mile east of New Village Road near mile marker 24.5. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Esselman, the two juveniles were traveling southbound in a black Ford Ranger when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
The male driver received serious injuries. According to scanner traffic, the female passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life. Despite efforts to revive her with CPR, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officer Esselman told us that no drugs or alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash.

Our family lost my granddaughter this week due to a tragic accident. She was only 15 and barely began her life. She was beautiful,funny and had a wonderful spirit. We lost her brother whom she adored a few years ago to a senseless murder. She never got over it. Now my daughter has lost both her children. How does a family get past such horrific times. If you’re a spiritual person please keep good thoughts in your heart for my family and if you’re more like me and don’t understand how life can be so cruel, just be understanding that we are just trying to get get past this unimaginable time in our life. Bless you all and thank you for loving us.

How tragic for your whole family. I cannot imagine losing a child, let alone both! And you’ve lost two grandchildren. I hope you guys all seek some grief counseling. Hospice offers it for free I believe. I’m so sorry for your loss.
