[UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: Photos and Oil Spill] Big Rig Crashes Into Tree South of Laytonville on Highway 101

An 18-wheeler reportedly crashed into a tree around 1:07 p.m. on Highway 101 south of Laytonville near the Irvine Rest Area, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page. The southbound lanes are reportedly blocked as the tree has fallen into the road. Dispatch logs also state that the truck is being held up by trees to prevent it from rolling down an embankment
The driver was reported to be injured, later complaining of knee pain, according to dispatch notes. Emergency personnel requested an ambulance response, and Caltrans was notified to assist. An ambulance was expected to arrive on scene by about 1:30 p.m., according to CHP.

UPDATE 1:32 p.m.: The driver has refused medical and the ambulance has returned to base.

According to a California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services hazardous materials report, the crash occurred when a semi-truck left the roadway and struck several trees. The collision caused approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel to spill from the truck’s saddle tank onto the roadway and into Long Valley Creek.
The report indicates the release had not yet been stopped or contained at the time it was filed. Personnel from Caltrans, Cal Fire, CHP, and State Parks were on scene responding, and one injury was reported. Cleanup operations were listed as in progress, and environmental agencies including the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s spill response unit were notified.
UPDATE 2:50 p.m.: Caltrans spokesperson Manny Machado tells us, “The roadway is open [in] both directions [but] number 2 lane is closed.” He sent the following photos.

Another big rig goes down. Luckly the truck is being held in position by a few trees. If the trees were not there chances are the driver could have been severely injured or killed. The driver should never refuse medical because he does not know what might pop up later after the accident.
He can still go to the doctor. Do you know the cost of an ambulance ride?

His work insurance should cover it. It’s harder to prove the injury was from the crash if you go in a couple of days later, so best to do it at the time.

I’m glad the driver wasn’t badly injured and I hope he feels really bad about it; he trashed the truck, damaged the cargo, and poisoned a stream.
Yea funny I was the driver I say it’s the owners fault cause I got the evidence did you know the company is responsible if your hurt cause I don’t have to pay out of pocket dude right that ambulance ride. Would be costly so. The bottom line they been working me over hours not my fault that’s I have a story that proves it then the company is obligated to take me to the work comp doc to get checked out now the picture in there shows my knee injury cause you can see it weather the photographer was trying to fuck up my shit it’s far from that I can see it and thanks for that more evidence plus they are obligated to make sure I get home well they didn’t do shit they played Games instead now I have solid good evidence cause it was all texted even the tow company. reason why it happened I will tell you i seen it happen to someone else and now it’s happened to me dozen times but never did it go this far it’s to much to explain how but it’s true and I can prove it what they had done was attempted murder and I have the right to self defense but I don’t go that route I will make sure that I’m gonna die them for all they got abd close them down cause serious I have the right to self defended and if i feel the need to I could protect my

Also the courts are gonna find them we’re talking tons of money so however, many employees they got $50,000 per employee that’s what workers comp find them 50,000 each and they got plenty that’s more enough plus whatever I assume for they’re done I got so much evidence against them. It’s not even funny. Everything landed perfectly on my lap as far as evidence is concerned down to the T that’s because good Lord was looking out and made sure I got it all. I was praying that whole day cause I knew someone wasn’t right and they’re gonna get it now they’re ignoring me. They don’t wanna pull. They wanna pull the retaliation card on me try to get me in trouble for something but they’re gonna get shit because I’m a railroad them. I’m gonna do the right thing. I’m gonna just take it all to court. Get me a good attorney and that’s it. My money is injured and they’re gonna pay for that and I got probably whiplash too cause my neck hurts now no reason to go in the ambulance and spend all that money expert emergencies services to pay it anyways because use your workers comp. It’s a work injury not a regular injury outside work they’re responsible so therefore I’m gonna beat this and I’m gonna get my tax shit out of them. Cause they well deserve it by stranding me out there and had to have my old lady come pick me up, but I kept telling her hold on it sound like they’re gonna get a ride and then all of a sudden no no no I wasted 89 hours out there in pain and all game. I got all the messages that show shows that it was game and that they didn’t give a fuck so I’m not gonna give a fuck when they get taxed their ass. I’m not gonna care. I’m gonna say take more we’re going for broke. Cause if that all fails myself, defense mechanism is gonna kick in whatever that means whatever comes to mind I don’t care.
