Public Information Officer for Caltrans District 2, Chris Woodward, said the agency’s geologist has assessed the site and determined there is no current threat to the roadway itself. Caltrans is working to bring in an emergency contractor to shore up and repair the slip-out as Caltrans continues to actively monitor the area.

Photos show a large section of hillside having collapsed down the slope adjacent to the highway. While the roadway remains open, the damage to the shoulder and pullout area is significant.
Highway 299 is a key east-west corridor connecting the North Coast to the Interstate 5 corridor and is heavily traveled by commuters and commercial traffic. Slip-outs and slides along the route are common during periods of heavy rainfall, and the stretch near Buckhorn Summit — which sits at roughly 3,200 feet elevation — is particularly vulnerable to storm damage.

Mountains be moving…
The hills are alive.
So… what about the ‘EYES’ ???
No threat to the road, I don’t think that is true. From one picture is looks like the slide has in fact undercut the highway. I am just glad there were no people parked there for a rest.
