The Humboldt County Division of Environmental Health (DEH) temporarily suspended the food facility permit for Harbor Lanes at 2136 Broadway in Eureka following documented rodent activity, according to inspection reports dated February 23 and 24.

An inspection conducted February 23, 2026, in response to a complaint, identified multiple food safety concerns, including staff hygiene issues, cross-contamination, and the potential presence of vermin, according to DEH documents. Inspectors reported observing rodent activity on food contact surfaces in the back prep area of the kitchen as well as on shelves in the front kitchen service area.

Due to what the inspector described as the “prominence of activity observed,” the facility’s permit was suspended until corrective measures were completed. Required mitigation steps included washing, rinsing, and sanitizing all affected areas; placing food and utensils into lidded containers; working with a licensed pest control provider to identify entry points and harborage areas; correcting an ingress hole under a kitchen sink; and implementing daily sanitation procedures until the rodent issue was resolved.

A reinspection on February 24 verified that corrective actions had been taken. The report states that all food contact surfaces had been washed, rinsed, and sanitized; dishware and silverware in affected areas were secured in lidded containers; and a written sanitation log had been created to track food protection measures, including overnight and opening and closing procedures.

The operator also worked with a licensed pest control professional to seal ingress points and address potential rodent harborage factors. As a condition of reopening, the facility agreed to increase pest control services to weekly visits, complete and maintain sanitation logs signed by staff, and submit pest service reports and sanitation logs weekly for review until no rodent activity is observed for two consecutive weeks.

The February 24 report states that the permit was officially reinstated following verification of corrective actions.

The facility is currently operating under the reinstated permit subject to ongoing monitoring conditions.

They’re right next to the dump, rodents are probably a difficult problem.

I am sure that there are plenty of the rodents to go around. They are smart and it won’t take long before they enter the bowling alley again.

Snot called a dump anymore. They now call it a transfer facility. (But still a dump to me)

I’m glad to see us getting our monies worth lately out of the health department.

Based on years and years of DEH’s history with those who operate the local food scene, we will be “getting our monies worth” from the DEH for many years to come.
Blech.

You should have seen what came out of Applebee’s before the rehab. It was worse, yet nothing happened. Even a homeless encampment at the back of the property was not mitigated.
