[Update] Roadway Flooding Reported Near South Fork Bear Creek at Shelter Cove Road

Flooding is creating a traffic hazard late this morning at Shelter Cove Road and Chemise Mountain Road near South Fork Bear Creek.

According to CHP dispatch logs, the incident was reported at approximately 11:09 a.m., with one lane already flooded and the second lane at risk of becoming impacted.

Scanner traffic indicated that, as of the latest report, one lane remained open but water was rising rapidly. The other lane could be affected quickly. Assistance from County Roads was requested as soon as possible.

Motorists traveling Shelter Cove Road near Chemise Mountain Road are advised to use extreme caution and be prepared for changing conditions as flooding may worsen.

Shelter Cove Fire Department is urging motorists to use extreme caution in the area and reminded drivers, “When in doubt, turn around, don’t drown.” Officials warn not to attempt to drive through flooded roadways, noting that even a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle off the road.

10 inches of clearance or higher necessary right now to pass SF Bear Creek…no longer doable for low cars. 12:30pm. We have over 7 inches of rain today here so far!

eh just had the propane guy and the fed ex guy make it here and I saw a subaru car go over the one open lane on shelter cove rd still…if you hurry you can make it back to the cove tonight but you better get goin!
