[UPDATE 11:35 a.m.] BREAKING WEATHER ALERT: Tornado Warning in Shelter Cove, Large Lightning Storm

The National Weather Service Eureka has issued a Tornado Warning for Shelter Cove, along with a hail warning. A dangerous storm capable of producing a tornado is ongoing.

At the same time, lightning and thunder is actively occurring across coastal areas from northern Mendocino County to north of Fortuna, indicating an unstable storm system is impacting a wide area of the North Coast.

Closer inland, thunder and lightning are being heard and seen near Miranda, including at the Redheaded Blackbelt home.

What to do now:

Move indoors immediately and avoid windows.

Take shelter on the lowest floor if possible.

Avoid outdoor activities and travel during the warning period.

Stay tuned to official weather alerts for updates.

This is a rapidly evolving situation. We will update as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 11:35 a.m.: The NWS has issued a Severe Storm Warning until 11:45 AM PST in Honeydew CA. Here between Honeydew and Miranda we are experiencing very strong winds as well as heavy rain.

Looks like the NWS has dropped the Tornado warning for the coastline. (11:40)

Power outage on Fruitland Ridge– a branch into a powerline along Dyerville Loop Rd, with flames, not far east of Elk Creek Road. The initial outage has expanded.
