Morning Commute Hits a Speed Bump in Eureka

Red car high centered on a curb on Broadway in Eureka. [Photo from EPD]
At approximately 7:30 a.m., multiple callers alerted 911 that a red sedan was high centered on a curb on 101 as it runs through Eureka. Eureka Police posted the above photo and warned motorists, “EPD is on scene of a vehicle off the roadway in the 3500 block of Broadway. All lanes are open, but please use caution while traveling through the area.”
Caltrans QuickMap shows there is some minor slowing in the are, but as of 7:55 a.m., traffic is moving relatively well on Broadway.

THAT’S some fine detective work sidekick. Obvious it’s not age related. Have you reported our results to those bumbling PD units? They will appreciate it.
Does this mean your mom isn’t going to let you borrow her car anymore?
Bottle neck traffic on Broadway in eureka?
No way…. you can thank Leon for that. His efforts stopped the proposed bypass around eureka years ago.
I don’t care for your uncalled-for comment about Leon. Leon always did what he thought was best for our town. He passed away some time ago, so please let him RIP.
Martin, from what I remember about Leon Warmuth (that’s who you are talking about I think), he was a nice guy. However, he and the Eureka Chamber of Commerce did, or at least helped, stop the bypass project, already on it’s way with properties being bought, etc.
I’m sure they thought they were doing what was best for Eureka, certainly the downtown businesses, but in retrospect it wasn’t what Eureka needed.
Apopa didn’t say anything bad about Warmuth as a person.
In his comment he said, “you can thank Leon for that.” I also think at the time of the proposed bypass project money was of great concern. Leon was just one person, and I don’t think he cared enough weight with the Eureka Chamber of Commerce to stop anything.
Lots of Eureka pedestrians have also passed away since then, because Eureka was not bypassed…
Not bypassing Eureka wasn’t the best for those Eureka pedestrians, was it…???
Aren’t they also part of what you call “our town”…???
But, who is it that cares for the memory of them, (or not), like some people care about the memory of others like “Leon”…???
Lose lives, or lose businesses…
Take your pick…
Pedestrians would have still been killed trying to cross the streets below the bypass and on the bypass itself. Lives would still have been lost right along with some businesses around the bypass. I don’t pick the bypass at all. If folks here are upset about the bypass, may I suggest they move to Los Angeles and try that for a while. It won’t take long, and they will be coming back to Eureka.
Looks like we have a new sport on Broadway call Curb Hopping.
“RSV”…
Ryan Hutson warned us yesterday about it being out of control…
(Red Swerving Vehicle…)
The Storm has begun…
Just as families gather for the holidays,
Witnesses testified to observing the window of prevention closing for the Red Swerving Vehicle just before it partially traversed the sidewalk…
Test positivity may be likely above 0.08%…
Hopefully no hospitalizations…
Increased wastewater concentration probable…
(Check one or two “stocking stuffers” off of the “to do” list…)
Cut the driver some slack….
Maybe they were delivering food to the hungry…
At least they’re high and dry…
Looks like a redwood root speedbump up our street. I have to drive on the far opposite side of the road to keep from high-centering.
But that just got fixed didn’t it? 🙂
Typical driver, doesn’t care about blocking the sidewalk. ;-p
And right next to a No Parking sign.
I don’t care if the people that agitated to nix the bypass are alive or dead they are, to quote our president, losers.
Eureka will be so much more livable if we had a bypass. Full stop.
