Eureka Slated to Become a ‘Trans Sanctuary City’

Requests for the trans sanctuary designation got a warm response from city councilmembers at their Nov. 4 meeting.
During the meeting’s open public comment period, several residents lobbied for it.
“I started my life here in Eureka and when I realized that I needed to restart my life as a woman, even before I knew that was what I was doing I chose to return to Eureka,” said one speaker. “This is a place I’ve always felt safe.”
But she added, “not everyone is so kind” and “across the country and even in this state the federal government has embarked on a project to harm trans people and to punish those who stand up and help us be ourselves.”
Those “terrifying efforts can be stopped,” she continued, “if we stand up together and say we will not be divided and we will not arrest or report members of our community for being trans or providing care.”
Another speaker said “being trans can be frightening” and “one reason why is we are afraid is the concern that our medicine and medical procedures will be taken away from us.”
A sanctuary designation “would give me and my community one less reason to be afraid.”
Those who oppose allowing minors to access gender-related treatments – including political leaders of states that have banned it – say it’s medically irresponsible and some of its critics equate it to child abuse.
But Eureka pediatrician Pippa Coulter said there’s evidence supporting its use and it needs protection.
She said she moved to Eureka two-and-a-half years ago “when my former state made it a felony for me to give gender affirming care or even refer my patients for such care in other states.”
Noting that the American Academy of Pediatrics and other medical organizations support transition-related treatments, Coulter urged approval of a trans sanctuary resolution to “help support the providers who are being threatened” and “I would like it mostly for the sake of my patients who shouldn’t have to be afraid and they should hear that their community is behind them and will stand up for them.”
During the meeting’s future agenda items segment, Councilmember Leslie Castellano recommended taking up a trans sanctuary resolution, which got unanimous agreement.
Councilmember Mario Fernandez noted that Trans Remembrance Day, which calls attention to those who’ve been victims of trans-related hate crimes, is coming up later this month.
It will likely take longer to prepare a vote-ready resolution but councilmembers agreed it should be taken up in the near future.

Conflating personal, adult choices with child abuse is harmful to efforts at reducing actual child abuse. Narrowing your focus to exclude innocent adults who only want to live in peace might help you address your very real concerns regarding children.

My concern is what care facility will perform the transition? Certainly not that Catholic hospital which dominates all health care here in Humboldt County!
St. Josephs has been breaking state law for years on reproductive health care and trans heath care. A year ago during campaign season AG Bonta took them to task for the reproductive health care part and reached a settlement where the hospital agreed to stop forcing its religious opinions on people who have no choice but to go to them for care. Perhaps the same could be done for trans care since it too is protected by state law.

Mycotoxins are the most potent (by weight) naturally produced toxin known.
The subject of molds and mycotoxins is very broad with many important topics so this isn’t the place to discuss it broadly. Here are a few specific things though.

A type of mycotoxin is the ‘drug’ given to people for organ transplant surgeries to keep the patient’s body from ‘rejecting’ the new organ implanted from another human (a foreign biological entity that is a potential threat to the body). The toxin suppresses the immune system so that the body does not do what it is supposed to do, which is defend itself. This drug is just acting as a complete toxin and the negative effect of the toxin, in this case, is taken advantage of.
There are reasons why this information is not widely distributed. One, military exploitation. Two, insurance liability (for health care as well as for buildings). Three, the implications are significant enough that it means that major fundamental changes are needed to the materials used and the designs of buildings, especially residential (single and multi-family).

There are thousands of studies going back decades that confirm trans people’s biology is not so simple as you think. They cross disciplines like neurology, endocrinology, developmental biology, osteology (bones) and a few I’m not thinking of at the moment. They also build upon prior findings, reinforcing the validity of said findings.
Here’s my favorite over the years. It’s been repeated many times since it’s such an easy data collection. 2D:4D means the length of the index finger vs ring finger. As it turns out, that’s a sex-dimorphic (different between men and women) trait and trans women statistically match cis women, not men.

Genes affect cancer risks, height, hair length, weight, etc etc etc. A bazillion things. But it does not mean everyone around is required to avoid things that could trigger cancer in someone else, require short people be accommodated if they want to play in the NBA, wear extension or shave their heads, give weight handicaps in Olympic track events, et etc etc.

That’s not a “study.” That is disingenuous spinning a definition to make a “study” say what you want. A cosmetic surgery to meet one’s own idea of a stereotype of their birth gender should look like is not the same as changing gender altogether.
Life long hormone relacement therapy, radical surgery with extensive risks, infertility, etc is not cosmetic surgery. Nor one on top of which that requires everyone else adjust and behave differently or go along with it as if it was a matter of personal right. There are no books affirming the equality of rhinoplasty nor male breast reduction. There is no organization promotion the social integration of cosmetic procedures. Breast reduction in biological males (AMAB teens) for gynecomastia is a real and common procedure, but it is not considered a “gender-affirming surgery.”

You have been “told” it prevents suicide but the real stats of suicide in our youth don’t match your claim. I recently was told about a boy in third grade who was transitioning and wanted to have his name changed to a female name.
He didn’t tell us that, his mother told the school and they informed us so we would call him by his newly preferred name. You have to wonder who actually decided on that name. He seemed like a typical young boy to us.
I had a son who was a “dog” so we put his food on the floor and let him be a dog. That phase ended in a couple of weeks. The point being, you don’t do something drastic to young children just because they playact being a different gender or a princess or a hockey player or whatever.
As parents you have a responsibility to protect your children. Anyone with real gender dysphoria should have some professional help to determine why they think they are anything different than the gender they were born with. Young children can’t possibly make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Parents who make those decisions for them, before the child is an adult, really are guilty of child abuse. Kids are impressionable and can be talked into many things they later regret.
Why can’t we just let kids be kids? We had four, they went through a bunch of phases when they were growing up. We let them pretend to be whatever was the flavor of the day, but never thought for a second they wouldn’t outgrow their childish thoughts.
It’s my business when they get pissed off because you used the wrong gender or used “they” because you can’t figure out the difference and don’t want to offend. All I can do is apologize, but some of them take that anger to the next level.
Personally, I don’t use gender pronouns at all. Hell, I have enough problems getting people to spell my name properly, as on paper, you wouldn’t be able to tell who or what I am. I’ve actually seen it used for a pet, and we haven’t even gotten to the gender signatory part. So I just go by first names when in person or “to whom it may concern” in more official correspondence… because well…you just don’t know. It’s much safer and less offensive that way. Also, more personable. Just pick a name to go by, and that’s what I’ll use.

I think you were trying to do the normal thing by having something clever to say but came up with an idea that is realistic to do and good. It’s probably too good, in various ways, but one is that it makes too much sense, and there is actual need for it. Most of the logic that applies to making the city a trans sanctuary should also be applicable to making it a sanctuary for families.
Imagine going to the next city council meeting and proposing the equivalent but for families, such as legal protection for families from government overreach in circumstances with the public school system and medical system. You, or someone, could turn this into a big deal if they wanted. The news would probably be able to find it’s different angles to play off of like other issues around the country, how they do.

wtf people. this comments section shows why a sanctuary designation is important. don’t believe everything on the internet about trans people…a lot of it is rebranded homophobia clickbait. 1.7% of humans are born with ambiguous genitalia. Gender is more complex than a coin flip.
Your comment is bullshit — there are cases where children are born with ambiguous genitalia but nowhere near the % you cited.
”Sex assigned at birth” is one of the radical trans activists tactics to make people think designation of sex is totally arbitrary and can be changed as simply as changing shoes.
In fact, sex is rarely assigned at birth because in almost all cases a babies sex is clear and is simply recorded as m or f — it’s not random or arbitrary.
IDC what adults choose to do but children are not capable of understanding the life long consequences and making an informed decision to irreversibly scramble their genitalia or remove healthy breasts.
Trans people need sanctuary from people who want to protect women and children?
Eureka city council needs to do their jobs and quit trying to shove stuff like this down people’s throats. I knew a young man who decided he wanted to be a female and took the hormones and whatever else was needed and probably 2 years later before any surgery decided he wanted to stay a male. Of course he already had boobs but at least he didn’t get cut on.
Once a sanctuary city, perhaps Eureka should insist that St. Joseph’s stop breaking California state law by discriminating against trans people in providing health care. AG Bonta took the church-controlled hospital to task for a similar type of discrimination with reproductive care a year ago during campaign season. Healthcare is not the place to impose one’s religious opinions on others when they have no other options. Currently the nearest trans-accepting full hospitals to Eureka are in Santa Rosa and Roseville. The rest of the North State is Christian Care only, and that is morally wrong. Reversed course, stating the risks outweigh the benefits , now puberty blockers are only allowed under strict clinical research conditions.
You can judge a cities citizens moral and ethical fortitude by how they treat their downtrodden and unhoused people. How about we make Eureka a city that respects human rights and the constitution without a bunch of exclusions contest rules and fine print eh?
