This is a press release from the event organizers:

Left to Right: Anton Shekerdjiev, Stoyan Kostov, Donka Koleva, Nikolay Kolev

The public is invited to a concert and dance party with hauntingly beautiful songs and driving, complex dance rhythms. BULGARIKA, a traditional Bulgarian folk band, will be at Synapsis, 1675 Union Street, Eureka on Monday, October 13, 2025.

Award-winning vocalist and teacher, Donka Koleva, sings traditional songs from various regions of Bulgaria, accompanied by instrumentalists Nikolay Kolev on gadulka, a bowed rebec; Stoyan Kostov, tambura, a long-necked lute; Anton Shekerdjiev, bagpipe and tupan drum.

For dancing, you don’t need a partner and there will be a dance leader to show you the steps!

Entrance: $10-20 sliding scale. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Members of the band will also be offering a community music workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Redwood Raks World Dance Studio, 824 L Street in Arcata. Lessons for individuals and small groups are available. All voices and instruments are welcome at all levels of experience. Beginners are encouraged.
