Jackson Demonstration State Forest Advisory Group Meeting to Highlight Restoration, Recreation, and Forest Management
This is a press release from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE):
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) invites the public and media to attend the upcoming Jackson Demonstration State Forest (JDSF) Advisory Group (JAG) field meeting. Participants will get an on-the-ground look at forest management, ecological restoration, research, and recreation projects across JDSF, including updates on the Jackson Demonstration State Forest Management Plan, recreation survey findings, and a field review of the proposed Camp 8 Timber Harvest Plan (THP).
Attendees will also visit recent stream restoration projects that demonstrate how fish habitat improvements and forest management can work together to support healthy, resilient redwood ecosystems. The proposed Camp 8 THP is intended as an example of how active forest management can accelerate the development of old-growth forest characteristics and strengthen long-term forest resilience. As California’s largest state-owned demonstration forest, JDSF serves as a working landscape for research, sustainable forestry, habitat restoration, watershed protection, recreation, and public learning.
The JAG provides recommendations to CAL FIRE and the Board of Forestry and Fire Protection on management, operations, research, public use, and policy matters affecting the forest.
Who: CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit and JDSF leadership, Jackson Advisory Group members, research and forestry staff, and members of the public.
What: A field-based public meeting of the JAG, including opportunities to talk with CAL FIRE forestry staff, view research and restoration areas, learn about recreation survey results, and contribute to the planning for this important forest management restoration work.
When/Where:
Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Camp One Day Use Area (accessed via road linked below)
JDSF Road 350 (access via Highway 20 at Mile Marker 5.85)
