[UPDATED With Video] Nacho Average Accident: Snack Truck Slides, Ruffles Traffic Flow

About 12:14 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, a Lay’s chip truck took an unscheduled detour off State Route 199 at mile marker 8 near Gasquet, where the road runs along a steep cliff above the Smith River.
But by the time medical and fire crews arrived, the driver was out of the cab with only minor injuries. First responders then had to face a much different challenge-what to do with a snack truck that almost took a dip.
A tow truck was called for and one way traffic control was put in place.
CHP ultimately listed the crash as a “minor injury collision.” But for drivers passing by, the real injury may have been watching bags of Doritos and Fritos so close to the river’s edge—yet so far out of reach. This was definitely nacho average accident.
>By evening, State Route 199 could finally get back to being just a curvy highway through the redwoods instead of a roadside snack bar.
UPDATE: Gasquet Mike has great video. If you don’t follow him already, you should.

“Some settling of contents may have occurred during shipping.”
Looks like the chips fell where they may. At least no one got crunched.
When the chips are down….
So a job opening at Frito Lay distro. Drug test required.
I’d say that the accident occurred due to too much Smartfood® on board, but that would be corny pretzel logic.
I was trying to eat just one….!
Sure has a chip on his shoulder. All of them.
He took too many puffs…
My fingers are always oily after a handful of those things!
Just trying to prove that indeed their bags are waterproof and hold up well when dropped on rocks.
A very lucky driver.
Let the chips fall where they may.
Chips & Dip (& CHPs)
Seriously the ride down must have been scary. And even “minor injuries” can be quite painful. Luck was definitely along for the ride!
The driver is lucky it’s August instead of winter. You can see where the high water line is. We might not be finding the truck for a few weeks, instead of them climbing out if this happened during then.
Maybe…a co-worker whose husband drove one of those trucks told me the bags were injected with nitrogen to prevent chips from getting crushed — little air bags might keep the truck afloat all the way to the ocean!
Nacho isolated incident either. Anyone remember the last Lays truck accident?
That’s a hell if a drop! Don’t eat anything that looks like bean dip!
The truck doesn’t look very munched..
Nice pun fest, but that driver is clearly at fault going off the road on the straight stretch like that. Nobody pays attention any more. Like the fog line is just a suggestion. Half the dummies drive in the shoulder or just bounce back and forth over the double yellow and fog lines.
There’s a killer on the road.
In the interest of good grammer; Is it that the truck lays over the bank, or lies over the bank?
‘Lay’ is a transitive verb. It requires that something BE laid, an action is transferred to something. ‘Lie’ is also a verb but with no transition. A thing ‘lies’ by itself…no action on or to anything required.
The correct usage would be: The truck lies over the bank.
Gotcha. Wow. That means I did get laid.
The Lays truck lies over the bank.
Implies this isnt as toxic as trash. Who would want to eat this slop?
Looking closely at the two pictures it appears that the first one is different from the second one. Did the truck tumble further down to the river after the driver got out? Definitely not the same photo if you look at the location of the rocks to the truck.
If you watch the video, about 28 seconds into it you can see the truck move. If Bigfoot wasn’t in the back munching away, then it was in the process of being lifted by the yellow tow truck.
These truckers are going to need to start carrying flotation vests. Especially in the winter.
Isn’t this the 2nd Lay’s truck that has plunged off the road in our area this year???
The company may need to post send a memo to their drivers: ‘Prepare to be Lay’d up!’
