Sea Goat Seeks Muralists for Hiller Road Quick Build Public Art Project

sea goat farmstand & folk school logoSea Goat Farmstand & Folk School is inviting local mural artists and creative collaborators to submit proposals for the Hiller Road Quick Build Project, scheduled for September 2025.

This initiative will bring vibrant, meaningful public art to 5–6 designated sites along Hiller Road—from Central Avenue to McKinleyville Avenue—as part of a broader effort to improve pedestrian safety, support walkability, and activate public space through art and community placemaking.

About the Quick Build Project:
Quick Build projects use low-cost, reversible materials (such as paint, planters, and bollards) to test safer, more pedestrian-friendly street designs before permanent changes are made.

Community Mural Component:
Sea Goat Farmstand & Folk School, in collaboration with the McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee (MMAC) Subcommittee on Active Transportation (CAT), the Coalition for Responsible Transportation Priorities (CRTP), McKinleyville Ace Hardware, McKinleyville Family Resource Center, and Humboldt County Public Works, will lead the mural portion of the project, including:

  • Artist engagement & selection
  • Mural design support
  • Paint & materials coordination
  • Collaboration with local partners
  • Community paint day facilitation

What Artists Receive:

  • Artist stipend
  • Paint & materials provided
  • Opportunities for community collaboration in design & installation

Theme Suggestions:
We welcome mural proposals that reflect:

  • Indigenous identity
  • Local history & ecology
  • Community connection
  • Abstract interpretations

I love Sea Goat! It’s like a mini-farmer’s market with wonderful produce and lots of local art. I took a class at their maker’s space, so fun!
