A new wildfire, dubbed the #RedFire, was discovered around 11:30 a.m. today, Saturday, July 26, burning in the forested hills north west of Redway in Southern Humboldt County.

Visible smoke was first spotted on ALERTCalifornia’s Pratt Mountain camera, showing a distinct column rising from dense timber. The fire appears to be located in rugged terrain, making access difficult.

Aerial resources are already en route to the incident or at the scene. Tanker 96 (T96) and Cal Fire helicopter CFR651 are responding to the scene, according to FlightRadar tracking data. Ground crews including Redway Fire are also responding. Air attack over the fire reported it as a quarter acre with a slow rate of spread with the potential to reach three acres.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATE 12:28 p.m.: According to Battalion Chief Fire Captain Jeremy Ward, Forward progress has been stopped at about a 1/2 acre on this fire which was burning on the east side of Redwood Drive north of Redway. “Redwood Drive is being shutdown by CHP and HCSO for firefighter safety reasons,” he told us. “We have a lot of resources in here and we don’t want anyone getting hit.”

UPDATE: The roadway is opened.

If I t was between Dean creek and redway odds are it was a homeless camp. There has been camps around redway and garberville for thirty years, the county has done Nothing. It is worse now then it ever has been. For that matter california is worse then I ever thought possible. And it is just getting worse.

They cleaned up the big camps so unless they’ve moved deeper into the woods…..haven’t seen many homeless walking toward Ray’s lately…

That’s how democrat control works. The left has been on a race to the ethical and moral bottom for decades.

Jeremy Ward is a Battalion Chief not a Fire Captain… He is also a PIO or Public Information Officer. He has been mistakenly identified here as fire Captain on more than one occasion. He has been a Battalion Chief fo over 5 years. On a side note he is a super solid human, firefighter and supervisor
