Vero Fiber Begins High-Speed Internet Construction in Arcata

This is a press release from the City of Arcata:

City of ArcataVero Fiber, a Colorado-based fiber-optic internet provider, has begun construction in Arcata and will be offering service to residents in the coming months.

Vero currently offers service throughout Eureka for residents and businesses and its sister company spearheaded the D299 Middle Mile Initiative which will make high-speed broadband service available to all communities from Arcata to Redding. Now, Vero is constructing infrastructure to provide an additional option for high-speed internet service to Arcata residents.

Director of Environmental Services, Emily Sinkhorn stated, “The City of Arcata considers potential utility leases and encroachments within City rights-of-way and property that would provide a public benefit to the Arcata community. The installation of new fiber optic infrastructure and communications equipment by Vero will help create service redundancy within the Arcata community and promote healthy competition for internet and phone services in the area.”

Vero’s construction began in July and will continue taking place over the next several months throughout the city. Construction will be completed in phased rollouts, and service will be offered to Arcata neighborhoods as project phases are completed with the first customer activations planned for fall this year. Arcata residents may experience traffic delays or detours due to construction, but these are expected to be minimal. The city would like to remind residents to use caution around construction sites and follow all signage for their safety.

This sounded great at first. It would be good to get away from Optimum and have some competition for internet service, but when I went to the vero website they wouldn’t give any rate or plan info without full contact info. Screw that.

I had the same experience. Why do they need full information about me, just to quote rates & schedules?

Vero Fiber internet pricing generally ranges from $50 to $130 per month , with speeds from 300 Mbps to 2.3 Gbps, according to a reddit thread.  Specific plans and pricing will vary depending on your location and the speeds available.

AT&T is another option.

It already has as Frontier Communications has been installing fiber lines for the past several months.

Cool! We’re looking forward to it! Just need to come up with another $20/month.
