Search Continues on Klamath River After Reported Drowning Near Blue Creek

A multi-agency search effort is underway on the Klamath River near Blue Creek after a person was reported missing in the water Monday evening.
According to Lt. Jesse Taylor of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), “Deputies, Yurok officers, and a Coast Guard helicopter searched into the night without success.”
The incident is believed to have been initially reported shortly before 6 p.m. near Klamath Beach Road.
As of Tuesday morning, HCSO boating units and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) teams are continuing the search in coordination with Yurok Tribal Police and the Coast Guard. In a statement shared on social media, HCSO wrote, “This is regarding a subject in distress who went missing last night. Please contact HCSO if you have any information on this matter.”
No identifying details about the missing person have been released. This is a developing situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Nighttime Klamath river search and rescue efforts rarely produce results. Give thanks to the responders for risking their safety in the dark. The Klamath is big water with vertical currents, snags and deep holes. ones safety shouldn’t be taken lightly on this body of water.
