[UPDATE 2:47 p.m.] Brooktrails Vehicle Crash Ignites Fire
A vehicle collision that occurred this afternoon in the Brooktrails area west of Willits ignited a wildfire that was slowly spreading through nearby vegetation. Multiple aircraft were responding, but fire was knocked down by the first crews on scene.
The incident began around 2:18 p.m. near the intersection of Goose Road and Ridge Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a vehicle crashed into a tree and subsequently caught fire. Two firefighting tankers, a helicopter, and multiple engine crews were dispatched but have now been released from the fire..
The Brooktrails area, characterized by dense vegetation and limited evacuation routes, is particularly vulnerable to wildfires.
