[Update: PR from TCSAR] BREAKING: Baby Oliver Has Been Found in Trinity River, Says Volunteer Diver Juan Heredia

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, veteran recovery diver Juan Heredia announced on social media that he had located the body of 9-month-old Oliver Evergreen Cox, the infant swept away in the Trinity River following a tragic car accident along Highway 299 near Big Flat last week.

Redheaded Blackbelt reached out to Heredia, who confirmed the heartbreaking discovery. Overcome with emotion, Heredia said he would speak more at a later time.

This is both devastating and relieving news for the young parents and the community, who have been holding out hope for closure since the early morning hours of May 1, when the couple’s vehicle plunged into the cold, fast-moving river. Despite their efforts to free their son from his car seat, Oliver was pulled away by the current. Though the vehicle was later recovered, Oliver was not inside.

Heredia, who volunteers his time through the nonprofit Angel Recovery Dive Team, returned to the crash site, determined to find Baby Oliver. His work brought an end to a painful chapter, offering a small measure of peace amid an overwhelming loss.

We will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.

Note: This article has been updated to reflect that today is Tuesday, May 6, not Monday, May 6, as stated in the previous version of this article.

Update: Those wanting to donate to Baby Oliver’s family in their time of need can do so on their GoFundMe.

And because of an angel named Juan Heredia and his near miraculous recovery of baby Oliver this child can be returned to his grieving parents.

Holding the baby’s family and friends in my heart. And for Juan—may you find peace in knowing you brought that child home. I hope time and compassion help ease the weight of what you’ve carried.

So terribly sad, but at least now the family and loved ones who were in an agony of fear and anguished suspense have been given some measure of closure, and can begin the long, long journey to find the peace that passeth understanding. My heart and my prayers go out to them, and also, my gratitude to the diver and all the other caring souls who worked to find this beautiful little child, who now rests with the angels.

Glad they found him. Heartbreaking.

It’s a bit weird. I was thinking they should call in Juan Heredia and it seems he was already here. He came up to Oregon to search the Siletz river for a 2 y/o after folks had been searching for nearly two weeks. Mr. Heredia found him after just a couple of hours.

So heartbroken for little Oliver. For his parents and all that loved and treasured him.

Beyond sad.
May we as community near and far weave a net to hold this family enveloped in love&catch them when they need to fall down in sorrow.
&may they feel that love.
What an incredible giving man to persist and give closure, the emotions must be overwhelming to recover peoples loved ones.
Thank you.

Juan had a early question on his site? Where is this? He was informed and responded quickly. Jyan Heredia is doing God’s work. Bless you Jan and family. Prayers up for Oliver’s family.
