A fire was reported at approximately 4:50 p.m. near the 200 block of Barry Road in Kneeland. The fire has already grown to an estimated 2 to 3 acres with a moderate rate of spread. Given the current conditions, local firefighting officials expect a structure in the area to be threatened within the next 30 minutes if the fire continues to grow.

The location of the fire is in a rural area with grassy fields and scattered trees, close to several homes and outbuildings.  Residents nearby should be prepared for possible evacuation orders as fire crews assess the situation and attempt to contain the blaze.

Fire personnel are en route, and their response will be critical in protecting the nearby structures. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. No injuries have been reported so far, and no road closures have been announced.

UPDATE 5:15 p.m.: Air attack reports that the fire near off Barry Road in Kneeland is holding at three acres with a slow rate of spread. At this time, there is no need for evacuations or road closures. The threat to nearby structures has diminished.

UPDATE 5:45 p.m.: Forward progress has been stopped according to WatchDuty. When “forward progress has been stopped,” it means that firefighters have successfully halted the advancing edge of a fire, preventing it from spreading further. While this doesn’t mean the entire fire is extinguished, it signifies a major milestone in containment, as the fire is no longer growing in size or threatening new areas. Crews may still need to control hot spots or mop up remaining flames, but the immediate threat of the fire spreading has been mitigated.

Unless there is a significant new event, we won’t be updating this post further.
