CHP Releases Names in Fatal Hayfork ATV Crash
Press release from CHP:

On September 21, 2024, at approximately 1244 hours, CHP Trinity River Area units were advised of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision involving two riders on Forest Service Rd 32N04, north of Carr Creek Rd, in unincorporated Trinity County (Hayfork area). Medical Personnel pronounced Michael Cagnina, 65 years of age from Vacaville, CA, deceased from injuries sustained from the crash upon arrival. The second rider, Bobby Jones, 47 years of age, also from Vacaville, succumbed to his injuries shortly after medical personnel arrived on scene. CHP has not determined which rider was the “driver” at this time.
The preliminary investigation indicates the riders were traveling eastbound when they allowed the ATV to leave the forest road and overturn down an embankment where they collided with a tree.
Alcohol and or drugs [are not] suspected to be a factor. This collision is still under investigation.
Note: Please note that the original press release has been altered to indicate that drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the collision. The press release was updated at the request of the CHP.

To much weight on a quad makes it push in the corners. That sucks.
Need to update the blurb on the main page also to indicate that “Alcohol and or drugs [are not] suspected to be a factor. ”
Thank for catching that. When CHP sent the corrected press release, I updated the article but forgot to update the excerpt as well.
Wonder if it was an ATV (straddle seat) or a UTV (side-by-side). Either way, dangerous vehicles. I have a 750 Kingquad and treat it with as much fear and respect as any of my chainsaws.
My sincere condolences to the families and friends of Mr. Michael Cagnina and Mr. Bobby Jones. I am so very sorry that they perished in that bad accident. May they RIP and ride on in Heaven. ATV riders please let what happened to those wonderful men to encourage you to always wear your helmet.
