The slipout that occurred today on Alderpoint Road approximately three miles east of Garberville, has reopened as of 9 p.m. following a significant slip-out that caused the roadway to drop by about two feet earlier today. The closure, which affected both west and eastbound traffic, was in place near the former Ranch House Inn between Upper and Lower Sawmill roads.

Ghirardelli & Associates Resident Engineer, Kevin Church, confirmed that travel will now resume as usual in the construction zone. However, he advised drivers to “watch for loose gravel.”

Church said that there will be a monitor and flagger staying overnight on the road. They will not be active unless the slide begins to move again.

The slide occurred today during excavation at the road repair site around mile marker 2.7, a known slide-prone area. The road began slipping when the excavation reached a clay layer, prompting the crew to close the roadway immediately.

The reopening of Alderpoint Road comes after hours of work by contractors to stabilize the slide and repair the road surface. The closure had earlier forced Cal Fire crews from Garberville, who were responding to an electrical fire in the Palo Verde area, to take a longer route.

The roadway is now open to traffic.

Hurray…

Everyone should return to Church, and give thanks…!!!

😉😁

In order to keep it open, we all need to return to Church, and pray…!!!

😉😁

It’s also important to tithe, so I will be giving thanks, and sending a check for $150.00 to RHBB, ASAP, for all her hard work and dedication, and for her keeping us all promptly updated, on all the latest breaking news…

It’s really not enough, but unfortunately, it’s the best I can do at the moment…

She really deserves much, much, more…

Now, where is that mailing address again…???

Thanks Kym…

TRG…

By ‘It’s really not enough”, I meant that it’s my small contribution, that is really not enough, not all her hard work and dedication…🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I timed out, before I could properly edit it…

I regret any possible misunderstanding my poorly worded comment may have caused…

🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Kym,

You’re too kind…

I really wish I could do more…

Or well, more often, at least…

Is there somewhere on the website that we could find your mailing address…???

Nevermind, I found it…

The road will be good again once the slide is fixed. Seems like the clay layer was not known to be there until it was hit with that heavy piece of equipment. Hopefully it will last through the winter months.

The road crew would have had a change in plans if they had known there was a clay layer under the topsoil. Dirt just slides on any clay layer. What part of that don’t you understand?
