County to Issue Chip & Tap enabled EBT Cards

Press release from the County of Humboldt:

Humboldt County Department of Health & (and) Human Services DHHSCounty residents who use electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards will receive newly issued cards with Chip and Tap technology as soon as this summer.

Due to the high rate of benefits theft occurring in California, the California EBT Project, in partnership with the California Department of Social Services and EBT vendor Fidelity Information Services, will be upgrading all cards.

EBT thefts are on the rise. To protect your EBT benefits with real-time tracking, EBT card users can use the free ebtEDGE mobile and web-based application to manage CalFresh and CalWORKs benefits, check balances and review transaction history.

Easiest way to stop EBT theft is to stop the government from stealing wealth from citizens. No EBT = no theft!

Yeah, let’s just let malnutrition add on to the health effects of being poor because, you know, fuck the poor, not my problem (/sarcasm).

Attached is the income eligibility for SNAP benefits.

You go ahead and fornicate with the poor if you wish, Tim. I tithe to my church and their duty is to feed, house and administer to the poor. It’s also their duty to introduce them to the Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ, so that they may know where the fruits of others labor that provides for them originates from. If you expect the false god of the government to provide for those that don’t, have not, and will not, you’re going to be waiting an eternity. For the god of government that you worship only increases the numbers of those in misery and strives to keep them there as a means to appeal to those that do, have and will to contribute more of their wealth so the clergy of your god (politicians) can continue to enrich themselves.

The numbers of homeless keep rising and the numbers of poor based on whatever the figure is that your god of government says the poverty level is, keeps increasing. Haven’t you figured out your god of government hates poor people, enables rich people, and taxes the living fuck out of middle class people so the rich pay less and the poor get more? (Maybe, unless of course there’s a politician with his/her hand in the cookie jar…)

Yeah, because churches are so good at taking care of the poor:

Deflection? We were talking about the church of thy god… the government; and how good IT is at taking care of the poor.

No deflection, you claimed the church would take care of the poor and it obviously isn’t because the government has to provide food assistance to millions of people, most families with kids and most are working but still at or below the poverty line.

Instead, many of the churches you vaunted are instead enriching their pastors with millions of tax-free dollars or building multi-million dollar church facilities instead of helping the poor. Jesus would be ashamed.

That’s the whole point. The government DOESN’T have to take care of the poor and they shouldn’t. Taxes are theft. People choose to give to churches. Nothing wrong with pastors wanting themselves and their families to be comfortable while saving souls. If he or she become too greedy that’s one of the seven deadly sins and he or she will have to answer to God for that.

Envy is also one of the seven deadly sins, Tim.

that will definitely make the program more efficient, and easier to use. maybe a 25 push up requirement for junk food charges.

Can you imagine being told you shouldn’t be allowed to eat the same food as most other people because you are too poor? “I’m offering to help ppl not starve to death but bc you’re so poor I need you to do physical labor, on top of your job and your family duties, in order to drink a soda.” I was born with a borked brain (tumor), and the big pharma charges 2000 a month for my medicines, should I be given that treatment? Or is it just the people without teeth that should be policed at the dinner table?

no, but if the gov. is so concerned about health, and medical needs, they probably shouldn’t encourage 800 lb., diabetic, emphysema suffering people to buy twinkies and such. i apologize in advance if anyone’s offended, but really.

If you’re poor, diabetic, overweight, with emphysema, then Twinkies might be the only treat you get out of life because you can’t afford the insulin, can’t afford Ozempic, and can’t exercise your way out of it because of emphysema. By the way, if you’re 800lbs you can probably get a TV show on TNT and won’t be poor anymore.
