In the wake of this weekend’s storms, a large tree fell last night about 9:15 p.m. on the south end of Westhaven Drive and blocked the entire road. The road was closed overnight through there was still access through the 6th Avenue and Trinidad exits.

This morning Humboldt County Public Works has been clearing the roadway noting that this is a “Big Tree, big problem.” The roadway is still impacted as of 9:30 a.m.

UPDATE 4:59 p.m.: The road is open!

Yeah I guess it’s a big tree…we’ve had stuff like this come down on our road. 2 guys, 1 chainsaw, 1 small excavator and we would have cleared that in less than 3 hours. Really, not bragging just saying… I guess this is how the government works. We just don’t have that much time to waste and nobody is paying us!

Yup, as evidenced by the picture. 3 people in the pic, not one of them with a tool or branch or limb in hand. One person operating equipment. I guess all the labor was being done on the other side of the big tree.

Don’t be a jerk, Bumpkin. Those fellas worked hard all day to clear
that very large tree.

The one on the left is holding a chainsaw. On the right, the worker looks like he’s putting on gear.

Why didn’t you get your rear end out there and help out. Bitching about the problem never solved anything Bumpkin!

Nope. Like I said, it was a really big tree. I use to run a chainsaw for the Forest Service.
