Prescribed Burn Near Big Lagoon Today

Weather conditions permitting, Green Diamond Resource Company plans to conduct prescribed burning for fuel hazard reduction near Big Lagoon, today, November 29th. Burning operations are implemented in coordination with CAL FIRE and the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District. Please note that smoke may be visible in surrounding areas, including Highway 101, while prescribed burning activities are being conducted. Green Diamond staff will be on site monitoring prescribed burning and fuels reduction operations.

Almost certainly just burning the massive slash piles neglected for years, rather than “prescribed burns”.
Even if that is the case isn’t that also a good use of fire?
Yes and no
It doesn’t take long for creatures to make home out of even small brush piles, let alone the 15-20’+ tall monstrosities the big logging companies make.
Hot HOT fires, also not good for the soils and any surrounding/overhanging trees.
Burning lots of rotten material, water-logged skins and unusable logs, stumps/root-balls with cubic yards of soil and rock being burnt.
Yup… ‘Permitted Burns’ is a more likely title.
