[UPDATE: CHP Attempts to Locate Driver] Car Crashes Over Embankment on Alderpoint Road and Bursts into Flames
Residents of Garberville were alerted to a vehicle accident on Alderpoint Road near Quarry Road, just east of town by the sounds of sirens and then a column of black smoke rose above the hills. According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, a vehicle crashed off the road, plunging down an embankment, and then bursting into flames at approximately 6:57 p.m.
A passerby attempted to quell the flames with a fire extinguisher, but the fire rapidly consumed the vehicle, eventually spreading to the nearby vegetation.
Law enforcement and emergency services responded to the scene where the lone occupant of the vehicle, a male, managed to escape the wreckage before it was engulfed in flames.
As of 7:12 p.m., Cal Fire and local fire departments have controlled the blaze.

Alder Point Road, Garberville, So Hum….SHOCKING!
It’s especially steep coming down to Gville. Iirc, a box truck went over near there a few years ago.
Dose anyone now what make , model or color of the car
It appeared to be a smaller sedan, Honda Civic-esque. Due to the damage from the fire, I could not ascertain the color of the vehicle prior to the fire.
Thank you
Thanks, Lisa Music, for the awesome coverage.
Thank you.
When it rains, it pours. Wait,,,it sure would be nice if it poured
Salty comment
Were they trying to hide something? Or was it really an accident? Nobody around to answer questions makes me think it wasn’t the latter question.
Yes so youve never heard of a drunk driver crashing then bailing to avoid DUI??
Happens all the time, all over the place.
My guess.
Trimmigrant… harvest season ended… probably wanted on a warrant… stolen car… set it on fire… and pushed over the edge. Usually happens this time of year.
Quite the active imagination!
I hope the driver is OK.
People in wrecks are often injured and/or disoriented and can get in terrible trouble if they don’t get help quickly.
I hope the driver is OK, also, Steve.
