Major Injury Crash Closed 101 For Hours Early This Morning Near Hopland
Two passenger vehicles struck a semi-truck early this morning in close proximity to the Green Bridge just south of Hopland temporarily closing Highway 101 and causing major injury.
The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicates the collision was first reported around 1:37 a.m. when two vehicles reportedly struck the trailer of a semi-truck blocking the lanes of the Green Bridge.
The incident left two patients with major injuries and two other patients with moderate injuries.
Officials closed Highway 101 between 1:55 a.m. and 4:18 a.m. as they worked to extricate the involved and clear the roadway. At one point, one of the involved vehicles had to be pulled away from the Green Bridge by a tow truck to free the driver.

So many crashes in that spot.
Yup.
Replacing the 2-lane between Ukiah and Russian River crossing should be a CalTrans priority.
Doing the full bypass on the Richardson Grove should also be another priority.

Unfortunately, no answers from either CalTrans or the Government though.
Maybe they’re not in CalTrans’ 1961 Master Plan.
They were, but Governor Jerry Brown and Adriana Gianturco Eliminated California Division of Highways in favor of forming Caltrans. They did it to steal road tax money for transportation funding. Thus the “trans” in Cal Trans.
Had they not done that, highway 101 would have been a freeway the full length of California.
The highway money was spent supporting mass transit, trains and buses. Much of the money was spent in urban areas much to the detriment of Humboldt County.
Caltrans was formed in 1973 at the direction of, and signed into law by, Ronald Reagan. The new agency was organized into six divisions: Highways, Mass Transportation, Aeronautics, Transportation Planning, Legal, and Administrative Services..
In 1978 Jerry Brown introduced the California Transportation Commission which replaced the California Highway Commission, State Transportation Board, Aeronautics Board and California Toll Bridge Authority, for the purpose of advising and assisting the governor and legislature in formulating and evaluating state policies and plans for transportation programs.
Adriana Gianturco was appointed as Caltrans’ first woman director. She served from 1976 to 1983.
A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
Were and children involved in the accident?
So many questions.
Was the truck stopped and they ran into it?
If they hit a stopped vehicle was it their fault?
Why was the truck “blocking the lanes of the Green Bridge”?
No disrespect to the injured. I hope they will be okay.
Some things we will never know. Dust in the wind.
Well, what’s the truck driver have to say about it? Poor situational awareness by those who smash into a stopped vehicle.
We all hope for the injured, but yeah, what are the facts? All your queries are valid. Wee hours of the morning. Will their be a blood test on the drivers or will we never hear of it again? A severe mechanical or human failure seems to be the only explanation. Clear, dry weather? Lights on?
hope traffic was diverted Old River Road/175 short loop both ways avoiding bridge
