Two vehicles collided on southbound Hwy 101 near Metropolitan Road at about 12:07 p.m. The vehicles (first reports say a white truck and a blue sedan) or debris from them are impacting both southbound lanes north of Rio Dell. However, only the outside lane is blocked, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.

Four people (emergency personnel reported that there were juveniles involved) are reportedly injured. Ambulances have been requested.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 1:08 p.m.: At least three people, including two children and one adult male, were taken to the hospital. The roadway is now clear and traffic is flowing smoothly.

UPDATE 11:46 p.m.: This following is not an official report but an account from one of the people involved.

According to Ashley Ripple the driver of the pickup, “I was making a left hand turn in the turn lane and that car hit me on the left side…tried to pass me…as I was turning left he passed and hit me on the drivers side. He hit me as I was turning…My baby and I walked away thank god.”

I don’t know how the accident happened, but I sure hope the four people and several juveniles that are going to be taken to the hospital will make a complete recovery. Folks trying to merge onto southbound 101 from Metropolitan Road will sometimes not stop at the limit line and just merge. Not that this is the case this time, but I have seen it happen before. Please be careful there everyone before someone is killed!

Does it really matter as to the number of people? The issue here is that no one was killed.

You really have to watch out for the other cars when you are driving. People do stupid things on the road, but if you are aware of your surroundings, and driving carefully yourself, you can avoid accidents most of the time.

Spot on. I worry more about other drivers especially after watching someone completely twacked out of their mind having a twackattack while driving erratically all over the highway, speeding up and slowing down and definitely not watching the road.

It’s called “defensive driving”. I always figure every other driver is either drunk or texting and watch carefully, always leaving plenty of space between my car and the car ahead of me, staying to the right to allow those late for their root canal appointment to pass.

Opening a cold can of unsetted beer between your legs while driving can give surprising results.

Looks like Rio Dells cannabis industrial park needs an overpass. That park is booming , property values there skyrocketed right into the dirt , crack me up.

It is impossible the way she described it. If she was in the left lane making a left turn the only way she could be hit on the left is if the other driver was passing her in the median. Umpossible. More likely she was in the right lane and turned left in front of the other driver. If it does not make since, it is not true.

Don’t be so sure. Plenty of open ground between median barriers for an idiot to try and pass on the left. I saw a female do exactly that in the speed zone north of eureka. Passed a guy in the hammer lane by cutting into the left turn lane, going like a bat outta hell. Looks like the drivers side front of truck is taco juice. Maybe he got introduced to that median on the south end.

Witnesses have said the truck had been swerving before the wreck happened. They also stated that she almost hit them as well.

God was looking out for both parties, but if she was in that turn lane you can either make a u turn right there, or go into where the field is how is it that he hit her but her drivers side is wrecked? Wouldn’t it be her passenger side? Unless she cut him off and smacked into the pilot thinking she can make it to the turn out lane. There was only 4 in the incident, 3 in the pilot, 1 in the truck. (In the report)

I was behind the driver of the white truck crossing the rio dell bridge, the driver passed me in the number 2 lane slowed and entered back into number 1 lane. I thought the driver must be lost or on the cell phone…about mile north of the bridge i saw the white truck signal left from lane 1 and merge over as i was passing to far right after rumble strip to turn into northwestern ave. I heard the accident behind me. I do remember the blue suv was further behind me in rio dell, but never witnessed the actual collision expect the white trucks front tire flying past me into the north side bushes.

I do believe the truck. I’m in no way an expert, but logic says if the truck were to be coming into the left lane the blue van would have tried to avoid the accident by jerking to the left or at least I would have. This would have put the vehicles facing to the left, but the vehicles are facing to the right which tells me one of them had to jerk to the right to try and avoid the collision. Considering the damage is on the driver side of the truck and right side of the van then the white truck tried to jerk to the right while the van hit them from their left side.

Did you not read the article? It says she was in the left turn lane in that intersection. She was not switching lanes. Therefore she was on the left side of the pilot if she was in that turn lane.
