Terry Sue Myers

Terry Sue Myers, of Canby Oregon previously of Humboldt County CA, left this world and joined the loving arms of Jesus on June 12, 2023 with her family by her side.

Terry was born in San Francisco and spent her formative years in both California and Oregon. She received her teaching credential from CSU Chico. There she married Harold Myers. They settled in Arcata and Blue Lake CA where they raised their girls. She taught the primary grades at Fieldbrook Elementary School for 29 years, touching the lives of many.

She was active in the Phi Delta Kappa sorority, singing in choirs and at weddings. She loved to participate in all things creative, crafts of all sorts, the arts in general: dancing, leatherworking, painting, wood carving, rock tumbling/polishing, and writing. She loved animals, encouraging her daughters and grandchildren with their horse, steer, sheep, pig, and dog projects! Her grandkids fondly remember her consistently traveling up to Oregon for their milestone life events and being together for the holidays.

She was involved in many activities including: the Redwood Writing Project, President of the Humboldt/Del Norte Reading Association, Member of the States Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials committee, the California Arts Project, the Redwood Arts Project, and participated in the Humboldt Light Opera Productions (Oklahoma and Sound of Music) She was also a girls softball team coach, a 4-H leader, and a mentor teacher for many years.

Terry loved traveling to places like Hawaii, Alaska, Europe and Peru. She enjoyed family snow skiing vacations, and spending weeks camping at the lake water skiing. and loved having fun with friends! She had an adventurous spirit going on hot air balloon rides, cruises, going to Broadway plays and musicals, or just laughing uncontrollably with her dear friends. She truly had an open heart and deeply valued her friends and family. After retiring from teaching, she became an active volunteer at the Joyful Healer Church.

She is preceded in death by her mother Dorothy Lillian Burnaugh, step-father Lyle Burnaugh, and her father Terence Henry McGowan. She is survived by her former husband Harold Myers, daughter Cindy Myers; daughter Kristin Downs (Lance) grandchildren Logan Downs (Alyssa) and Kelsey Odens (Tyler); brother Ross McGowan, and his sons and grandson, half-brother Mark McGowan (Karen) and their sons and grandson; and half-brother Kirk McGowan.

There will be a Celebration of Terry’s life August 12th at the Joyful Healer Church in McKinleyville, CA starting at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution in memory of Terry at
