An 18-wheeler semi carrying two golf carts and charcoal got stuck on a sharp corner of the Briceland Thorn Road this morning at about 6:10, according to the
CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.

One-way controlled traffic is in effect in front of the old Holstadts Nursury near Huckleberry Hill.

The CHP is on-site directing traffic.

In addition, watch for emergency vehicles as there was a motorcycle crash on Shelter Cove Road near Beach Road about 9 a.m. and an ambulance is responding to the collision.

UPDATE 9:28 a.m.: The CHP page is now reporting that the motorcyclist has minor injuries to their leg. Emergency vehicles are still responding though.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 12:32 p.m.: The roadway is now clear. According to Peter Lawsky, Fire Chief of Telegraph Ridge, his department responded for traffic control at 6:15 AM.

He explained, “A heavy wrecker came from Arcata to pull the trailer back onto the pavement. Both lanes of Shelter Cove road were cleared around 11 AM.”

Hope they weren’t heading to Honeydew that way! There are a couple of curves much sharper than that one as you get close. The Google maps ought to redline roads that aren’t appropriate for long vehicles.

Probably going to Shelter Cove, though.

This really is a semi. Thank you for getting the truck nomenclature correct!

Both the dispatcher and driver are idiots.

Emergency supply of golf carts and charcoal. Truck drivers used to have to pass a test before license is issued…..

The test doesn’t include geography. I guess if the custy wants the delivery, and the company wants the truck, they might work together to describe/figure out where they’re sending the driver!

A license is not a guarantee of ability! Geometry and physics lessons get expensive when one takes a tractor&semi-trailer on the scenic route.

You all should see the logging trucks on Bell Springs/AP roads. They’re horrid drivers, particularly the ones for Sundberg.

How? How many accidents have there been? Is it just that they’re big and there? That’s not really the driver’s fault. A narrow road and a big truck going 10 mph can seem like insanity.

Babich out of Crescent City and GR Sundberg from Arcata are the two who have damn-near killed several of us. Talking on cellphone while driving, driving down the middle of AP/BS roads on blind turns, not paying attention in general.

That sure is a nasty comment from a person who probably does not know the dispatcher or the driver.

?‍♂️

I’m actually surprised he made it that far and without causing an accident.

As of 11:10 AM the road is clear and open. Traffic control was actually provided by Telegraph Ridge volunteers.
