UPDATED SUNDAY at 8 a.m. at the following link:

____________________________________________________

A winter storm sweeps eastward across much of northwestern California this morning. Travelers will find snow today on many mountain passes and possibly into areas not normally impacted.

The National Weather Service in Eureka predicts, “Heavy snow is expected this morning across many interior locations in Northwest California. Snow will taper off to showers this afternoon only to re-intensify tonight again.”

Snow could drop quite low today. The NWS warns, “Snow levels this morning could be as low as 500 to 1000 feet in northern Mendocino, Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte counties while farther south into Lake County snow levels will remain slightly higher.”

By afternoon snow levels could rise, but tonight the flakes could possibly drop possibly “to near sea level in Humboldt and Del Norte counties overnight.”

Graphic from the National Weather Service in Eureka shows possible snow accumulation through the weekend.

Tips for Travel: Please note that if you have to stuck while traveling in winter weather, that an inexpensive heater can be fashioned from a tin and tea candles. The whole heating device takes up very little space.

Consumer Affairs magazine describes how the kit works and why you should use it. They say,

If you’re trapped in your car, running the engine to generate heat is a bad idea for two reasons: one, even starting with a full tank you’ll run out of gas in a few hours, thus leaving you unable to move even when the road eventually clears; and two, if falling or drifting snow or ice blocks your car’s exhaust pipe, you and everyone else in the passenger compartment can quickly die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Fortunately, it’s easy to make heat without running the engine, and you can put together an emergency automotive heating kit for less than $5. You only need four items: a large-ish metal can with a removable lid, a supply of metal-cup “tea light” candles, some matches, and waterproof resealable sandwich or freezer bags to hold the candles and matches inside the metal can.

(See here for a complete description on how to create this kit to carry with you.)

Look on the bright side, only six more days to go. For the benefit of all you LSD hippie, climate change, meteorologists, this is called winter. Lesson over, you can go back to cheering the war in the Ukraine. Hey, did you hear about the Ukrainian politician’s wife busted at the Hungarian border? Twenty eight million dollars in her luggage. Gosh, I wonder where that cash came from?????

nationalpost.com/news/world/wife-of-former-ukrainian-politician-caught-with-28m-in-cash-at-hungarian-border-reports

The story originated in Ukrainian news. They have pics of the suitcases full of cash. You may need to use a translater to read it:

https://news.obozrevatel.com/economics/fea/zhenu-pravoj-ruki-avakova-obvinili-v-vyivoze-28-mln-iz-ukrainyi-eks-nardep-vse-oproverg-detali-skandala.htm

This one is from the India Times, relayed via MSN:
https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/world/former-ukrainian-mp-s-wife-tries-to-flee-country-with-28-million-dollars-1-3-million-euros-in-cash/ar-AAViPTl

I don’t know how you feel about that site, but disregarding news that doesn’t appear in the MSM is dangerous for truth.

For example, I understand that WSJ may be considered conservative as it is definitely right of the NYT, but in my opinion, both are mouth pieces for different government agencies and narratives.

We all need to be careful about ‘fake news.’ But independent journalism should not need to be vetted by the old guard.

By the way. I love your site. ❤️

Only thing I can find is the President of Afghanistan taking flight with money after Trump dumped support for Afghanistan.
(From $1 to $170 million dollars… apparently nobody knows).

When the rich people fleeing are the direct family members of politicians, however, it is often a reflection of intense corruption, such as in the Uktaine.

Ukraine is not exactly a bastion of free thought or fair laws.

Her husband was a Russian puppet who started the conflict against ukraine. Funny how she wasn’t headed to RUSSIA! Ukraine was invaded and wants to be free of Russian backed political figures because they are corrupt and this story proves it. America should pay attention to Putin’s allies such as the Trump family. Ya know the same family that is supported by Saudi Arabia (hotels, golf courses) where the terrorist of 9-11 got their visas.

yea the former guy’s wife was stealing money. the current guy was elected to get rid of the crooked former guy. its a lot to follow, but the former guy got ousted because he was a crook. the people, by an admittedly small margin, ousted the crook and voted for zelensky because he wasn’t a politician. they hoped he could do something better. who knows what goes on in the depths of their government, but zelensky has earned the widespread support of his countrymen.

meanwhile, our former guy liked their former guy. and putin liked their former guy a whole lot better than he likes this guy. our former guy liked ukraine’s former guy so much that instead of standing up for zelensky upon his election, knowing full well Ukraine was already occupied by russia on the eastern side and therefor really needed international support, but our former guy instead said, ‘but i need a favor tho.’ and issued a really lame request. who cares about a political scandal of ours relative to people being invaded and killed? it was a lame reqest even if it had been a mostly legitimate request, but it wasnt.it was also a bold face request for zelensky to be corrupt. he refused. now people say oh, ukraine has corruption in its midst so they arent worthy of our help. they are trying to move away from corrupition when our PRESIDENT blackmailed them to get them to be corrupt and they refused.

and furthermore, our former guy was being corrupt in his ask AND it was a violaton of OUR democracy as well. He had zero constitutional authority to withhold that money for any reason. it wasnt his, it was congress’s money. [edit]

Rich people fleeing with tons of other people’s money has been SOP since the invention of money. Usually the rich thieves end up living in counties where other rich people protect the recently arrived rich people.

It was stolen. She is married to the asshole who started all this shit in Ukraine back in 2014. It goes to show how corrupt Russian backed separatist truly are and the current need for Ukraine to be free from Putin’s puppets. A warning to America that Russia is not friendly, corrupt and only wishes to control people to plunder their resources.

Surprised conservative media would want to acknowledge that in press. Then again we now know Fox, Newsmax and other conservative news outlets are just soap opera’s and not fact as presented in the Dominion lawsuit. Literally lying to their viewers for ratings, talk about sheeple!

The base problem with a 2 party system is that with an even number of parties the chances of a dead lock is much higher than with an odd number of parties. The ruling class know this so they go out of their way to make sure there is only 2 parties. With 2 parties and with a culture war is becomes easier to distract the people from the class war that is going on.

Exactly heads they win tails we lose, people need to realize it is us against them not them against each other, divide and conquer, no one in the government gives a lick about any one of us except for our taxes and votes that’s what gives them the power.

What gets me is that a certain political party used to jump up and down about the evils of the Soviet Union “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.” Now they are all cool and groovy with Russia, ignoring the fact that the evil bastards running Russia are the same ones who were junior officials that were running the Soviet Union.

It’s like that crappy Chinese restaurant that every town seems to have. The food is greasy, bland and just plain nasty and every couple of years they change the name and print new menus. The food is just as bad but instead of “Golden Dragon” its now “Szechuan Garden”.

Let’s just wait and see how it all plays out. The track record of certain individuals isn’t that great. Sort of like the ones calling Covid shots safe and effective. How’d that work out? Oh and that Covid didn’t escape from a lab, the FBI thinks otherwise now. Bakmuht just fell. Let’s see if Russia has conquered Ukraine or if Ukraine has pushed Russia back to its border in a year. Being a realist and critical thinker, my money is unfortunately on Russia.

The facts have played out since the fall of the iron curtain. This time it’s lead to a war like in Chechnya except this one is backed by Western weapons. This one is still holding on to its independent political party and leadership. It didn’t get sacked like the other Russian influenced countries. All of which maintained its pro Russian political parties. Millions of Ukrainians are fighting for freedom from a communist regime. Slava Ukraine!

PGE doesn’t care about us in Humboldt County , just try and call live person . Break up Pge now . We need local company to run it. I t doesn’t make any difference if we are supposed to be an island with generating capacity if they can’t keep the lines up .

That’s for sure, my neighbor’s power lines have been blocking our road since the first day of snow last week. Luckily I have access via another right away off the other side of the Hill. Some of the other neighbors went down with bolt cutters, cut some wires so they’d be low enough to drive over and have been driving over them for over a week..

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about. Not only is there a bunch of damage to lines but there are trees down everywhere blocking roads to get to the lines. A lot of these lines are in accessible which means they are gonna have to fly in the poles and equipment. So like the good old saying goes, if you don’t know what you are talking about just stfu ?

With 3′ to 4′ of snow in the mountains… it’s a bit tough to see when PG&E will get in those areas to repair. So far, this winter is harkening back to the 1950’s and 1960’s.
(Side Thought) This severity of this winter might be due to the Hunga Volcanic eruption of 2022. Eruption released the biggest cloud of volcanic debris (so far) in this century.

Its beautiful. Amazing.
If ya dont like snow move to a different zone.
Let yourself feel humbled by it.
We only fool ourselves that we are in any sort of control over things in our lives.
Personally Im enjoying thinking of having a huge flowing river to swim in later in the year this season ?and the general blessing of water.

Learn to roll with it, otherwise the next 10 years are going to be extremely difficult for ya. These winters will become the norm as the Pacific warms. The uptick in dead whales and appearance of warm water sea turtles are sure signs. Nature tells us whats happening.

Exactly. Been rolling with it for 45 years in these mountains and don’t need a lecture. I have drifts from the roof as tall as me, and paths across the yard deep as my waist. In the past week I’ve shoveled literally tons of snow to keep my deck from collapsing. Have to put on my Wellies to put seed in the bird feeder. It’s okay and it’s also a pain in the ass.
