Prayers for the family?? It’s horrible, we just lost the sweetest family member in September in a home fire???
Why didn’t post mtn fire respond?
Probably because the “chief” lives in McKinleyville, and only visits the Pines to grow weed. RIP to the deceased.
You can’t be a member of the post mtn fire unless you are a full time resident of post mtn, the person who says she is chief, her father is president of post mtn pud, that oversee the fire and road departments, someone has some explaining to do. Myself and other members of the community have tried to address the fact that post mtn fire department is dysfunctional, but no one listens, it makes me so sad that a life was lost. RIP
This kind of good old boy/back slapping’ bovine scattology will continue until good people stand up and call the question.
I don’t know how to break this to you, but fire departments in general and volunteer fire departments in particular are socialism at its’ finest.
Now, what are you gonna do about those snowplows?
Snowplows huh. Post mtn has 4 snowplows a 3/4 ton a 1 ton a 5 ton ex county rig and the monster 10 ton plow with 12′ blade. I think I’m the only person that will drive big plow, it has been sitting unused since 07 last time I used it, problem now is roads are so bad they can’t be plowed
As fire chief of this community, my heart goes out to the family of the deceased.
Post Mountain Fire Department was unable to respond to this call because two firefighters were out of the area for the night, and two firefighters were unreachable at the time of the call. Even in the event of a full response from PMVFD, it is extremely unlikely that we would have arrived in time to save the victim of the fire.
We currently only have four firefighters and we rarely leave the area due to issues such as this. We are unpaid volunteers, we are not able to respond 24/7/365, we do have lives outside of the fire department.
I was in communication with Trinity County dispatch and Hayfork Fire during the duration of this fire event, and a Post Mountain firefighter provided water to the responding department’s water tenders and engines.
It has always been difficult to acquire volunteers for this fire department because the community is in constant fluctuation and very few people want to volunteer their time to benefit their community until the fire is at their doorstep. This problem is even worse now that more than half of the properties have become abandoned. Our last community meeting, which was heavily advertised and provided a free dinner, was only attended by two community members.
Both the fire chief and the president of the PUD gladly welcome anyone appropriate to volunteer for either position, we are more than happy to step down. Most people in the community have my phone number and know that I am always available for calls about fires or to discuss community issues. We continue to struggle to run a fire department and public utilities district on almost zero community involvement and bare bones funding, a situation which we are constantly trying to improve.
As for our snow plow, it will be running as usual. Unfortunately many of the main roads are the county’s responsibility to plow and we are last on their list.
Bullshit
This community member, Gary, has been banned from all Post Mountain fire scenes. His aggressive and demeaning attitude will not be tolerated by our department.
He sounds like it, another person not suited for life in Trinity County.
Gary, ?
Having enough volunteers has always been a problem. No one wants to do the work, as Astrid said. I sat on that PUD board for years and pleaded for folks to join … to get trained and do it right. But no one wants to bother they just want to question and complain. JOIN.
RIP
My husband served as a volunteer fire chief for seven years in Trinity County. I know the amount of time that goes into training, responding to calls day and night, and the commitment it takes to keep pleading with community members to join the department. This kind of criticism of the only people willing to try to make their community a better place to live is sickening. If you want it to get better, help.
My condolences to the deceased persons family and friends. May the deceased RIP. May God bless the family and friends.
