Oh, Boy…This Did Not Go Well

The semi completely blocked Jackson Ranch Road –no half measures in this case.
Seriously though, as of 3:23 p.m., Caltrans QuickMap still shows traffic moving slowly on Hwy 255. So be alert.
And those of you who have never gotten yourself into a pickle like this feel free to cast the first stone, but, as for us here at Redheaded Blackbelt, we can only say that we’ve been there and done that once in a U-Haul in Oakland. While we are now able to laugh at our predicament, we hope the semi driver is at least halfway able to chuckle now.

I am sensing a string of cuss words rather than a chuckle…
Thankfully it seems to have been empty..
??I’m thinking….
“Well done”
?
Christie runs that ranch. Wouldn’t touch that beef with a ten foot pole..

Yuck. Me neither.
He probably cuts a lot of corners, too.
And kinda makes ya wonder what’s under all those ginormous piles of dirt in front of his barns…
Probably covering his losses…
Gross…
It’s hard to tell if Christie’s cattle are coming or going …
Don’t know ya but I bet you couldn’t ranch if it came with your salad
I used to see Christie at the Carl Johnson livestock auctions. And the Fortuna one.
We raised pigs, beef.. Had a horse or two..
There are close to a dozen parcels on that road under various ownership. Lots of them have cattle.
You should zip it unless you know where this truck was headed
Lean beef.
Snort! Good one.
Nice
I for one think you should do stand up comedy only in your comments, you are pretty funny.
Nice empathetic touch at the end there Kym.
I suppose it isn’t neutral journalism, but I feel so much empathy for the subjects of most of our articles when the commenters act as if they never have done anything similar and that anyone who has is an imbecile. I’ve done a number of foolish things over the years. But overall, I feel like a fairly competent, decent human being. Judging someone on their worst moments seems so unnecessarily harsh.
Repeated actions or cruel actions are one thing–lack of skill at a new task or a momentary loss of attention seem so human.
Well said Kym!
Yay for folks being a bit kinder!
Christie runs that ranch as far as I know.
You sure have a lot of options about who you think owns the property or might run the ranch funny thing is that you hide behind a secret name put it out there who are you if you are calling people out don’t be a coward!

My dad always said your only as good as your last mistake, that’s what people remember. Also 1 mess up cancels 100 attaboys, so pile up those attaboys!
Your dad was wise though I wish we could learn to be better than that.
Holey cow!
!#%@&! Dang nabit! It happens!
sliders…
The driver didn’t initiate the turn wide enough.
Spatial Relationship Deficit
That operation there causes a lot of dangerous traffic issues. I’ve been involved in a pretty bad crash caused by large cow trucks trying to make that turn off 255 quickly.
When they are turning right off 255 they often have to cross into the Arcata bound lane, and that lane is not anticipating cross traffic typically. Lots of daily commuters on auto pilot through there. It’s definitely a hot spot on my personal radar these days. Glad this one looks like just some inconvenience.
Also, those guys have a super cool menagerie of bovids hanging around there. Long horn, highland, waterbuffalo, American bison, and more.
Which operation? There are multiple ranches on that road.
At least the driver stayed at the scene and wasn’t being a coward.
??Nobody is perfect…?
He wasn’t a “coward”, that’s no bull.
Hopefully he wasn’t hammered…
I would have hoofed it…
Or at least began walkin’…
I’m sure the CHP thoroughly grilled him, and it won’t be the last time someone will rib him over it.
His boss was probably mad enough to spit.
What surprises me though, is that no one on here is really roasting him.
Kinda rare.
?
I bet if the trailer had been loaded then those would have been some pretty mad cows.
The trailer was loaded and I think the cows were pretty upset, at least judging by the clambering around I heard from inside as I picked my way around with my bicycle sometime around 2 pm
?
You can run, but you can’t hide…
I bet he’ll have a tail to tell.
Hey! Moooove over!
Bet he wishes there would have been more shoulder…
I had some expensive lessons early in my trucking career and became very good at making ‘wide’ swings because of geometry!
He didn’t know how to steer.
It looks like he almost grazed that pole, too.
Don’t be sexist now. Lots of truck drivers along I-5 are women. The lady’s are doing a great job as far as I’ve seen
dropped a blunt
Too busy bull shipping
A slightly off topic anecdote. About 20 years ago I was renovating the Burbank Hilton, now renamed, and the project manager had placed a row of storage/shipping containers across the driveway from the loading dock prior to my arrival. Nearly every shipment the hotel received normally came in big vans, but I was getting semis full of carpet and vinyl wall covering and plumbing and hardware and eventually many semis full of furniture and semis hauling away old furniture. With the containers where they had been placed it was impossible for drivers to come in the usual way and back into the loading dock. It turned out the only way to the loading dock was to back up around 3 90 degree turns over the course of 100 yards to it. The US Teamsters, who my cousin Richard Middleton by the way was West Coast boss of from his house on Broad Beach in Malibu, couldn’t do it. We unloaded several trucks by hand because if it. However, the new furniture was manufactured in Mexico and delivered by Mexican drivers. I suppose that because they deal with less perfect infrastructure is why the Mexican drivers never complained, never batted an eye and backed up in one fell swoop every time right to the loading docks.
The trucker pulled to the left as far as he could go without hitting the fence or pole. If that is ranch property he is on they should make the road just a little wider, so the trailer won’t go into the dip.
I don’t think any truck hauling a 48+ trailer can clear that turn without going wide on both roads in the direction the truck was coming from. I’m sure the driver will be wary of turns like that in the future
