At 10:14 p.m., emergency personnel received word that a vehicle had gone into the water on Hwy 255 near Young Lane west of Arcata.

A dispatcher requested that firefighters respond with swimmers. However, when firefighters arrived on scene about 10:35 p.m., they found one vehicle off the roadway but no one trapped in the vehicle.

With no patient on scene, most responders were allowed to cancel their response.

According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, emergency personnel found a Mazda about 10 feet off the roadway into a ditch.

So in a driver at fault that results in a vehicle with fluids in a watershed in the driver or the insurance responsible for cleanup costs?

We just returned from Seattle and I have never seen so much aftermath of car accidents along our route. Admittedly, the weather was horrific, but many drivers now seem to have decided the only limiting factor of the speed they drive is whether or not there is another car in front of them. This did not appear to end well for some. But, who knows? Maybe the accidents were due to driving on worn tires? In any case, some people need to take more responsibility on the roads or the carnage will keep increasing.

California drivers in general refuse to adjust driving for ambient weather and traffic conditions. Snow, rain, wind, sleet, darkness, it’s all the same. Residential street? Pedal to the metal, devil take the hindmost.
