1 Death, 2 New Hospitalizations, 55 New Cases Reported Since Friday

COVID DEATHPress release from Humboldt County Public Health:

Humboldt County Public Health reported today the death of a resident aged 80 or older from COVID-19. Staff in the Department Operations Center extend their condolences to the families, friends and caregivers of those who have died and all who have lost a loved one to the virus.

Fifty-five new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since Friday, bringing to 10,624 the total number of residents who have tested positive for the virus. Two new hospitalizations, a resident in their 60s and another in their 70s, were also reported.

Over the weekend, 375 individuals were vaccinated at Public Health clinics held in Blue Lake, Arcata and McKinleyville that included pediatric, first and second doses and additional doses and boosters.

State health officials are encouraging Californians to enjoy the holidays this season but are urging residents to get vaccinated and boosted to protect themselves from COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. Residents aged 5 and older are eligible to get vaccinated and anyone aged 16 and older is encouraged to get a booster if it’s been at least six months since the completion of their initial vaccine series.

Although the Omicron variant is highly transmissible, health officials cite new data that suggests primary vaccination and booster shots can lessen impacts, including hospitalizations and deaths. No known cases have been detected locally, but the Omicron variant has been confirmed in California and nearly all U.S. states. Incidence of the variant is anticipated to rise over the next several weeks following holiday gatherings.

The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention recommends anyone who is sick or unvaccinated and has been exposed to someone with COVID-19 to forego travel. All travelers are recommended to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and to isolate and get tested if they develop symptoms after travel.

Public Health testing is available through OptumServe at the Wharfinger Building in Eureka through Wednesday, Dec. 23. The Wharfinger site will be closed Friday and Saturday and will be back open for regular business starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 26. Walk-ins will be accommodated, but appointments are recommended and can be made at lhi.care/covidtesting or by calling 888-634-1123. Turnaround times for test results through OptumServe average two to three days.

Humboldt County’s vaccination and testing services are available free of charge. Although walk-ins are allowed at most regular Public Health clinics and many pharmacy vaccination sites, a sharp increase in demand for boosters has caused delays at some locations. As a result, appointments are required for pediatric clinics and for clinics at Public Health’s main office. Appointments are strongly recommended for all other clinics and are the best way to ensure a shot is available during your visit. Appointments can be made at MyTurn.ca.gov.

Vaccines, including boosters, are available at local pharmacies. To check the availability of a specific vaccine, visit the vaccines.gov page, or text a ZIP code to 438829 to locate a nearby pharmacy offering vaccines.

Sounds like omicron is coming our way so I hope you all been living healthy. Biden says the unvaccinated better prepare for severe illness and death in the coming dark winter (a little overly dramatic in my mind) . I don’t wish ill will on anyone but everyone’s made their choice at this point so here’s hoping it works out as each of us hoped.

And how is it more Americans have died of covid under Biden than Trump when Joe was given vaccine mass production capacity on day 1?

Gee, I don’t know. Maybe it has something to do with people not getting vaccinated and the mutation of the virus into multiple different strains which are more contagious?

Those people weren’t vaccinated either.

The question was which president has done a better job confronting covid. The evidence seems to suggest neither’s efforts did much to affect spread and lethality. Massive debt and societal damage for naught.

Seems common sense doesn’t apply to almost anything regarding the pandemic. Like the imaginary protective bubble when you sit down at a restaurant or when the vaccinated were told it’s okay to skip the masks. Numerous other examples from all sides.

But the current not my POTUS promised to rid the country of the COVID virus. He said he had a plan guaranteed to work. Was it a lie? Is it total incompetence that made him fail? Maybe he was asleep when he was running for, was that senator, or could it be governor, maybe mayor? Oh yeah, it was president whenever he could remember. Maybe he can remember his failed promises, realize he can’t do the job and resign, but I am not holding my breath!

But Fauci said 70% vaccinated will achieve herd immunity.
I know he’s full of shit and that was a lie.

That being said, it appears that South Africa, with the overwhelming majority having already caught covid, has achieved herd immunity. Less than 30% vaccinated and way lower hospitalizations and deaths than the highly vaccinated countries.

Japan has embraced using ivermectin as a cheap prophylactic and has all but eliminated hospitalizations and deaths.

“Conclusions:
Meta-analyses based on 18 randomized controlled treatment trials of ivermectin in COVID-19 have found large, statistically significant reductions in mortality, time to clinical recovery, and time to viral clearance. Furthermore, results from numerous controlled prophylaxis trials report significantly reduced risks of contracting COVID-19 with the regular use of ivermectin. Finally, the many examples of ivermectin distribution campaigns leading to rapid population-wide decreases in morbidity and mortality indicate that an oral agent effective in all phases of COVID-19 has been identified.”

This from The American Journal of Therapeutics

Not my opinion.

Censor it if you want. In my opinion that would make you just another tool of big pharma. Blocking information about treatments for Covid is lame and has led to many unnecessary deaths.

Kym, I am not a trumper. My vaccination status has nothing to do with politics. I take issue with your decision to censor any mention of Ivermectin being used to treat Covid. There are at least a few legit doctors using it (amongst other drugs/therapies) to treat Covid. It has been shown to be a relatively effective antiviral drug with minimal side effects or toxicity if administered by a doctor who has experience with it. There has been a serious campaign by the Pharmaceutical industry to demonize it because I think at this point it is no longer under patent coverage (I could be wrong on this point but not on the next) and that it is cheap. Here are a couple videos that are well worth checking out. Note that both of these are presented by pro-vaccination medical professionals. No one is saying this drug is a miracle cure in itself but it certainly has it’s place in the arsenal of tools to treat Covid, amongst others.

  1. This video also talks about other supplements and medicines/supplements to treat long Covid.

This next video is simply a press conference with another legit doctor.

Kym, I don’t know if my previous reply was deleted because it mentioned the now banned word (IVM). There are at least a few doctors that use it (amongst other things) as a cheap, often effective, and low toxicity drug. It sure looks like there has been a concerted effort by big Pharma to demonize it. Here are two videos that are highly informative and are presented by legit high caliber doctors, all pro-vaccination.

The first video deals with long haul covid but talks about many different treatments. I highly recommend the whole video but it is long. I think the two doctors may start to address IVM around the 58:30 point and after. Give it a chance. This doctor’s channel is awesome for learning the cell biology mechanisms underlying Covid and vaccination, etc.

It was an early projection from the Imperial College lab (Great Britain)run by an epidemiologist named Ferguson who based it on the assumption of no vaccine, no masks, no lockdowns or distancing, and no improvement in treatment for COVID.

It was taken widely out of context during the early months of the pandemic. I just brought it up as a counterpoint to the idea that it wouldn’t have been so bad if we hadn’t done anything.

Besides, wouldn’t saving even a few hundred thousand lives have been worth it?

No, saving a few hundred thousand lives wouldn’t be worth the $6 trillion of extra deficit spending, physical and mental harm to kids, and general social dysfunction. We’d have needed to save millions to justify the price paid.

Trump Derangement Syndrome has much in common with anti vaxxerism- no amount of facts can sway their hatreds. They know, just know, they are right. And no amount of pointing out the taking stuff out of context will make them reasonable. It only makes them switch to personal attacks.

No, he said it might go away. Not that it would. Because at that point everything was unknown. And of course he did not say it was nothing to worry about. In fact he declared a national emergency over it on 1/31/12019. Notice the part of this article about “U.S. officials also tried to explain their reasoning for an intense focus on this outbreak, which so far has not led to any deaths in the U.S., though it has led to more than 250 in China.” That was at the time when it was required of press to accuse Trump of xenophobia because he had put in some restrictions on flights from China. It wasn’t until later that anti Trumpers generally added claiming he over reacted because of jingoism to claiming he didn’t react at all. Mind you not one or the other but both at once no matter how contradictory the allegations.

Trump Derangement Syndrome

I have known about Trump for decades, going back to the 80s. If knowing what he was/is and loudly proclaiming it makes me deranged, then well…I’ll own it. The list of crap that guy has said and pulled from decades ago to now would take too long for this comment section.

The term “short fingered vulgarian” for Trump goes back at least 3 decades. I confess I used to enjoy reading about his antics and massive failures in the 80s and 90s, because he was such a choad. Even when I quit caring, he was inescapable at the dentists office with his affairs (the dust-up with his then wife and mistress in Aspen or Vail was hilarious.)

It’s kind of sadly funny that people who basically only knew Trump from The Apprentice, a highly scripted “reality show”, think he was even remotely qualified to be POTUS.

Even you must admit that his response (or actually lack of response and flat out denial***) to the Covid crisis of 18 plus months ago was abysmal.

I guess my “favorite” time Trump said the virus would just disappear was from Feb. 2020:

“You have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero,”

You realize that it was Trump administration action that declared the public emergency and invoked invoked PREP Act and then authorized tens of millions of dollars to directly aid Moderna in their vaccine development and authorized the FDA to fast track review of other vaccines and therapeutics, right?

I don’t agree with his administration’s approach either, but it’s not because he didn’t do anything.

Ivermectin fights 21 viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the cause of Covid-19. A single dose reduced the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in cells by 99.8% in 24 hours and 99.98% in 48 hours, according to a June 2020 study published in the journal Antiviral Research.

Ivermectin works by blocking a viruses ability to duplicate. Viruses need to be able to cut protein strands into sizes that fit into their cells and it is the viruses ability to cut protein strands that is blocked by Ivermectin. There are numerous studies with tons of evidentiary data that shows its effectiveness in humans ie studies involving humans. Look to the links I posted above.

You can deny it but saying that there is no evidence is either ignorant, dishonest or both.

Luc Montigier- Nobel laureate with a vaccine research and admin resume longer than your arm – and Geert Vanden Bossche, Ph.D whose expertise is NK (natural killer cells,) are two such men.

I would include informative links, but only at the risk of my expire post getting flushed by Dr Kym.

Because to protect vested interests of the powers that be, any Google search and neighborhood news blog is now clearly been “fact checker” scrubbed of most direct links, and is obviously slanted AGAINST their theories. In spite of their forewarning happening now in real time!

The gist:

“How Vaccines are creating Variants
Prof. Montagnier referred to the vaccine program for the coronavirus as an “unacceptable mistake”. Mass vaccinations are a “scientific error as well as a medical error,” he said. “It is an unacceptable mistake. The history books will show that, because it is the vaccination that is creating the variants,” Prof. Luc Montagnier continued.

The prominent virologist explained that “there are antibodies, created by the vaccine,” forcing the virus to “find another solution” or die. This is where the variants are created. It is the variants that “are a production and result from the vaccination.”

“Mass vaccination in the middle of a pandemic is prone to promoting selection and adaptation of immune escape variants that are featured by increasing infectiousness and resistance to spike protein (S)-directed antibodies (Abs), thereby diminishing protection in vaccinees and threatening the unvaccinated.”

***This already explains why the WHO’s mass vaccination program is not only unable to generate herd immunity (HI) but even leads to substantial erosion of the population’s immune protective capacity,” he continues. “As the ongoing universal mass vaccination program will soon promote dominant propagation of highly infectious, neutralization escape mutants (i.e., so-called ‘S Ab-resistant variants’), naturally acquired, or vaccinal neutralizing Abs, will, indeed, no longer offer any protection to immunized individuals whereas high infectious pressure will continue to suppress the innate immune defense system of the nonvaccinated.”

“This is to say that every further increase in vaccine coverage rates will further contribute to forcing the virus into resistance to neutralizing, S-specific Abs. Increased viral infectivity, combined with evasion from antiviral immunity, will inevitably result in an additional toll taken on human health and human lives.”

Today, at the end of the year, less than 70% of 300,000,000 Americans have been vaccinated. That’s 90 million unvaccinated people. The anti vaxxers also don’t want any masks, any shut downs, or even to take a nap when they are tired.
Ergo, it took most of 2020 for the thing to get to the rural parts of the country where the majority of the risk taking anti science folks live, and they still refused good sense when it got there, and then came the much more deadly delta variant. Exponential math means every person who gets it, gives it to 2 others. Now, with omicron, it spreads to 4 people. Hopefully they are right and omicron will kill fewer people per thousand who test positive.
A scary thought has occurred to me. I’m just wondering if fox news told you it wasn’t worth wearing a mask so more people would die and the Republicans could say, ‘look Biden didn’t manage this well.’
God, that would be diabolical, and it would make you a pawn.

So, I’m assuming by the article that the person in their 80’s died of delta?

“ No known cases have been detected locally, but the Omicron variant has been confirmed in California and nearly all U.S. states.”

This would mean that humboldt is still 100% delta strain, not 73% omicron like the article states. Doesn’t really make sense to me

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/blumenthal-speaks-communist-award-show-touts-build-back-better

“We invite you to join the Communist Party in this epic time as we make good trouble to uproot systemic racism, retool the war economy, tax the rich, address climate change, secure voting rights and create a new socialist system that puts people, peace and planet before profits,” emcee Ben McManus told the audience during the event.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., spoke at a communist event.
Blumenthal was introduced as a “special surprise guest.”

“I’m here to honor the great tradition of activism and standing up for individual workers that is represented by the three honorees here,” Blumenthal said.

The senator also touted President Biden’s Build Back Better plan in his brief remarks.

“There’s a lot to be working for in economic justice, in racial equity, in establishing a $15 minimum wage and holding corporations accountable for the basic treatment of the American people. We need to look at our entire tax system, beginning with Build Back Better,” he said.

Blumenthal also railed against the filibuster, which he said “has been misused by Republicans again and again and again.”

In concluding his remarks, the senator thanked the audience for “your help and support over many, many years.”

Blumenthal is one of the wealthiest senators in the United States, speculated to have a personal fortune approaching $100 million. “

He made his fortune from a retail company in China

You can’t. No one can, because the data is skewed.

“UNVACCINATED” can mean fully vaxxed with one shot AND a follow up shot AND 13 days elapsed after that. That’s data manipulation.

The cdc wants us to believe that running out and getting vaxxed ASAP is the best choice , and they even brag that just your first injection offers “significant” protection , “…the Moderna vaccine has been shown to have an efficacy of approximately 94.1 per cent in protecting against COVID-19, starting 14 days after the first dose…”

But hypothetically, ANY time after getting that first significantly “effective” 1st dose, up to 13 days after a second dose, that Covid positive patient is tallied as “unvaccinated.”

If you can’t see the problem with that I can’t help you.

Kym, I sincerely appreciate your blog. It’s the best news site in our area. I did donate a couple months ago. My sell comment was directed at the clicks it drives and the (although minimal) ad revenue generate from those clicks. I’m just some hillbilly stuck up in the mountains of trinity so I apologize if I misunderstand the business model.

My point really is that the over hyping of the fatalities is across the board of all media driving this situation to hysterical levels. Unfortunately most of deaths are not singularly attributable to covid and is almost always a result of comorbidities. These are never included in the statistics except for the assumptions that can be drawn from the persons age.

You are the editor and I completely respect that. The best part about your website is the allowed spectrum of speech. There is no echo chamber (unlike most other blogs) and it’s the only reason why I comment. Please keep up the hard and mostly unrecognized work. Merry Christmas!

That’s not the definition of comorbidity as the diabetes is not a factor in their death. Cause of death would be car accident.

Well, we can agree that’s some real data there. No conspiracies, just data. I wish the science would take a look at that and explain why to us… when they avoid it, that’s when the conspiracy thinking starts. Could it be the Memory-B cell and T-cell natural immunity derived from infection? Or is it because they have a younger population, which would support not vaccinating people under 50? Who knows, I am not a doctor… maybe Dr Hoffman can explain this to us. 😕

It’s confusing as to what you think it means. Cases come in waves. Each location having their own time frame throughout the pandemic. Never meant it was the end. “But this is not a phenomenon peculiar to Omicron. At earlier stages of the pandemic, in sometimes less dramatic ways, other waves have crested and declined much before crude models might’ve suggested the vulnerable population had been exhausted. Sometimes, this has led to premature predictions of early herd immunity” This article discusses the possible explanations- from testing limitations to personal interactions only allowing spread so far at one time.
.
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2021/12/the-south-africa-omicron-wave-is-already-peaking-why.html

In early in 2020 I read an article (and actually posted a link here) by an infectious disease specialist who was explaining why the modeling that was predicting a continuous increase in cases in NYC was wrong. You remember those models that lead to so many bad decisions? That the assumptions that the rate of infection could keep its trajectory without limits were wrong. People spread disease among contacts but those contacts were limited to same people they saw regularly. Once all those people were infected, the disease died back until an extraordinary contact was made outside of this usual circle and this would start a new wave. He said there was usually a four month ( or was it six month?) cycle to it. Basically taking a cautious wait-and-see attitude rather than grand pronouncements is better.

But 80% post infection, you know, because they were so infrequently vaccinated… the natural immunity so often mentioned by anti vaxxers. The real surprise is that the “natural immunity” did not actually work any better than vaccination. I guess omicron is good at both breakthrough AND reinfection.

Saying that natural immunity doesn’t give better immunity than the vaccine is patently false, as exemplified by South Africa. Studies show 14 times stronger immunity from natural immunity when compared to the immunity provided by the vaccines.

To say otherwise is spreading misinformation.

Enough of this BS about overweight/obese people dying of covid as if it is some profound discovery. The MAJORITY of Americans over 20 are overweight or obese and the number gets greater with age. Why would they not represent the majority of people affected by covid? Is some magic going to protect them?

Yale researchers have determined only 10-20% of the population is susceptible to severe covid symptoms, potentially leading to death. This is due to their over reactive immune system literally targeting themselves with an overly strong immune response. Monoclonal antibodies administered early is their best treatment. The other 80-90% of us experience mild to no symptoms. Why can’t these 10-20% stay home while the rest of us go on with our lives normally?
